The member representing Ahiazu Mbaise /Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Raphael Nnanna Igbokwe has explained why he is in good political marriage with the All Progressives Congress party, APC, even when he is elected member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the second term in the green chambers of the National Assembly.

The former member of Imo State House of Assembly and later Chief of Staff to Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, stated the reason why he hosted chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in his constituency even though elected under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party. Hon Igbokwe said his soul is pleased with Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and his party the All Progressives Congress.

"My soul is pleased with Governor Okorocha and his Party APC " He stated.

Hon Raphael Igbokwe who hosted the APC Chieftains during the Easter period to beg them to help him thank the governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara for their support, revealed that the governor and Dogara made it possible for him to get a Chairmanship position of an Adhoc Committee in the House of Representatives.

"The Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was the person who met the Speaker House of Representatives
to Consider me in the scheme of things in the House. Recently, the speaker appointed me as the Chairman
Adhoc Committee on Petroleum Pump Price", he noted.

The experienced lawmaker said he invited the APC Chieftains to inform them of the Favour he got from the governor (Okorocha)  and the Speaker (Dogara).

He also thanked two APC Federal House members from Imo State in the persons of Hon Chike Okafor and Hon Austin Chukwukere for the support and assistance they have been rendering him.

According to Igbokwe, the duo of Okafor and Chukwukere  went out of their ways to include him in their various Committees to ensure he was given sense of belonging.

Hon Igbokwe regretted that immediately after the 2015 election, the former Deputy Speaker Federal House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, who felt he ( Igbokwe)  did not rig for him in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA during the 2015 governorship election decided to use his previous office occupied in the National Assembly to work against him and totally mark him out for destruction.

He averred that Hon Ihedioha did everything from stopping him as a ranking lawmaker from getting any Chairmanship position in the National Assembly.

The former Deputy Speaker, he accused tried to get him removed as the caucus leader of Imo lawmakers in the House of Representatives. But thanked Rt Hon Goodluck Opiah, Hon Chike Okafor and Hon Austin Chukwukere and others who stood behind him.

Asked if he has joined APC, he said, as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, I have being in constant touch with my people. They understand my predicaments and sufferings in the hand of the former Deputy Speaker, he is using his privileged position previously held in the House to work against my political growth, success and development. If not protected in my Political family, I will go were they have shown me love and accommodation. He stated that he is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party but does not care how people sees his relationship with Okorocha and APC.

That as the highest political officer holder currently in Mbaise land today, he is pleased with Okorocha and his government programs and policies and extend goodwill message and solidarity from Mbaise nation.

Hon Raphael Igbokwe however, disclosed that he has also met separately with Chieftains of other political parties in his constituency like the ALL PROGRESSIVES GRAND ALLIANCE (APGA), PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) during the Easter season.

Youths of Orlu senatorial zone under the aegis of Orluzurumee Youths Assembly (OYA) last Saturday April 15, 2017 held an Economic Summit to chant a way forward for the development and improvement of aegis for their future and posterity.
In an opening address by the National President of the Assembly a notable Dietitian in the state Comrade Darlington Uzoahia started by quoting the philosophy of Ralph waldo Emerson. “Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong, there are always difficulties arising which tempt to justify your critics. To map out a course of action and follow it to the end requires courage. 
Comrade Uzoahia also popularly known as Dynamic, explained that he has been battling on how best to structure an administrative strategy that would align the 3C principles of “Consultation Collaboration and Consolidation” in strengthening the economic debate of our time. He described Orluzurumee Youth Assembly’s journey to stardom and provenance as “full of Periodic achievement and periodic challenges”. He then called for social responsibility and holistic parternership with the political leaders. He went on to state that considering the economic realities prevailing in the modern Nigerian society, reality should meet opportunity. 

In his word: Today we continue a never ending journey to bridge the cankerworms of economic growth, to define the best way on how to sustain the future, how best  we can assure our tomorrow and how interesting we can consolidate and sustain the peace we have always enjoyed. It is no more in doubt, that the growing economic uncertainty experienced in our time, is already placing a big question mark on the future of our youths. “Therefore, there is no better moment rather than now to begin to effect measures in answering these questions” He stressed.

He urged the leaders of Orlu Zone to demonstrate their investment in youth development by making the “Orlu nwere Mmadu and Orlu wu Eze philosophy” a dream come true. It was his contention that every lover of the youth and all the passionate stakeholders of humanity should join in the project of lifting our voices in advocacy for job creation and social empowerment, political emancipation and academic progression as well as skill acquisition for the youths. Comrade Uzoahia declared the readiness of Orlu Youths to partner with all those irrespective of ethnic nationality, “who will assist the youths in rising from dark and desolate valley of uncertainty to the sunlit path of social-economic reality. “saying now is the time to partner with us, fraternize with us and encourage our drive in lifting our people from the quick sand of socio-economic uncertainty to the solid rock of empowerment generation and job satisfaction” 

Moreover, Uzoahia  extolled the leadership of Orlu Regional Assembly Political Action Committee (ORAPAC) led by Chief Stephen CY. Uwaezuoke for taking the lead and supporting Orluzurumee Youth Assembly with all of its resources and human capital base. 

The keynote Speaker Chief Stephen CY. Uwaezuoke in his address expressed support to the objective of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly and commended the able way the National President Comrade Darlington Uzoahia was piloting its affairs. He went further to state how impressed he is at the summit saying “your goals and objective are very courageous, bold and sustainable.” Chief Uwaezuoke Charged the youth leaders at all times to stand out amongst other groups, speak out against injustice corruption and always demand accountability from the political and elected office holders, or government as a whole. 

In his word:  I am very optimistic your efforts will encourage and inspire our people to be able to speak out and demand for better economic and political policies that would impact the citizenry positively.
Continuing, Chief Uwaezuoke said, “Your efforts are not only inspiring, but gives us hope. Maybe in no distance time, or future, the citizens will learn to determine their own destiny, force the government to engage in family oriented policies and elected officials to be servants to the citizens instead of exercising lordership and being indifferent to the citizens civil rights and urge our various levels of government to protect out civil rights. He identified primarily political insanity, incompetency, greed and lack of compassion as factors that led to the Nigerian economic recession. The Chairman ORAPAC, USA further advised that like the Americans are very proud of their constitution and democracy which protect every citizen’s rights and interest, ours should be fashioned after that, so that the citizens can have the power to change the political leadership that has perpetuated corruption in our society. The process were only delegate and not every citizen select and nominate candidates for elective positions is defective and obsolete and must be reversed so that political parties do not offer the office to the highest bidders.

President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Prof. James Momoh for the position of Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The President’s nominee to the Senate for confirmation is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; and Director of Energy Services and Controls at Howard University, United States of America.  

Prof. Momoh, a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, has over three decades of teaching and research experience in power system, smart grid, optimisation and power communications.

The 1987 recipient of the National Science Foundation-US White House Presidential Young Investigator Award is a widely published scholar and has held several professional leadership positions in the academia.

Prof Momoh has a Doctorate degree in electrical engineering from Howard University; Master’s degrees in systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania; and electrical engineering from Carnegie University.  He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1975 from Howard University.     

President Buhari strongly believes that Prof Momoh has the technical knowledge, capacity and integrity to lead the Commission’s effort to bring about the much needed CHANGE in Nigeria’s power sector.

Ghanaian match official Joseph Odartei Lamptey was on Monday banned for life by world football’s governing body FIFA for match fixing.

Odartei Lamptey was found guilty of breaching FIFA’s disciplinary code during a World Cup qualifying game between South Africa and Senegal on November 12, 2016.

“The official was found guilty of unlawfully influencing match results,” FIFA said in a statement. Zurich-based FIFA said it was dismissing charges against another Ghanaian match official David Lionheart Nii Lartey Laryea, who had also been under investigation.
“Further information concerning the South Africa v. Senegal match in question will be provided once the decision becomes final and binding,” FIFA said.

“FIFA will continue with its ongoing efforts to combat match manipulation through a variety of initiatives, which include the monitoring of international betting and a confidential reporting system with a dedicated integrity hotline and e-mail address.”



"... No One Can Cow Me" - Says Ihedioha

The third lecture series of the Watch Dog Newspapers, Imo State, held at Rockview hotel, Owerri, exhibited robust and lividly session as politicians of different hew clashed with the various opinions and on Imo State, Nigeria and the Universe.

The chairman of the occasion, Dr JC Odunna had a tough day in containing the various camps, who stormed the lecture to deliver whatever is their opinion.

The highlight of the occasion was when the Ex-Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha mounted the rostrum to make his speech.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship candidate in the last general election in Imo State challenged the youths to chart a course for their future, and stop depending on individuals who have nothing to offer as emulation.

Ihedioha said that democracy create an opportunity for all shades of opinions to be accommodated with superior argument, pointing out that listening to all manner of arguments is the ingredients of parliament, which is where he is coming from.

However, the Aboh Mbaise born politician used the opportunity to lampoon the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, for leading Imo State to nowhere since six years he assumed office.
Ihedioha said that it is quite unfortunate that after six years, Okorocha cannot point at any project completed by his administration.

At this juncture, there was uproar in the hall, as followers of the Governor, who came to represent the Government started to shout Ihedioha down, but were overpowered by Ihedioha's followers and a no myriad of others who asked Okorocha’s Men to listen, after which they would be allowed to make their own speech.

But the representative of the government of Imo State walked out, to the disappointment of those at the lecture, who accused him of bringing their one-man-business administration in Imo State, to the forum.

Speaker, after Speaker, wondered how a government representative could walk out while a speaker was delivering his speech.

Ihedioha lapped on the situation to carpet Okorocha’s government, saying that there is no rule of law in Okorocha’s government, which made his appointees to act recklessly even at serious function attended by people from all work of life.
"Okorocha’s government does not obey laws. You see how unruly his appointees behave. It is quite unfortunate ", the Ex-Speaker hinted.

He however said no amount of intimidation can cow him from telling Imo people the truth, whenever he gets the opportunity.

" Wherever I speak in Nigeria people listen. I am a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. I did not buy it. I got it by merit. I have a national honour on merit. Therefore, nobody can stop me saying my mind in a democratic society like Imo State " he said.

Tragedy struck all the way in Calabar, on thursday night, when at least 30 football fans were electrocuted while watching a football match.

The sad incident occurred when high tension cable broke off and fell on a viewing centre where they were gathered, leading to their electrocution.

According to multiple sources, the fans stormed the viewing center in Atimbo area of Calabar to watch the football match between Machester United and RSC Anderlecht of Belgim when the tragedy struck.

Speaking with Punch after the encounter, the survivor said a transformer near the viewing centre located in the Iyang-Esu area of Calabar municipal local government area, exploded during the match.

He reportedly said this caused a high-tension cable to drop on the viewing centre.
“It happened during the match between Manchester United and Anderlecht. I heard a deafening bang. I rushed out to see what was happening,” he was quoted as saying.

“When I turned back to go inside the viewing centre, I saw a cable coming down on the centre and this electrocuted the viewers in the hall.

“It was a horrible sight to behold. I wish I didn’t come out to watch the match. Come to think of it, I have DStv at home but I enjoy watching matches at viewing centres. I could have been dead. I can’t believe that the people I was chatting and joking with a few minutes ago are all gone in a most anguishing way.
This world is vain.”
