Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko, a policeman, who has been described by many Nigerians as a hero after a viral video showed him gunning down one of the four armed robbers who attacked a bank in Imo State in February 2017, died two months after the incident, our sources learnt.

Three-minute video, apparently a CCTV footage from the bank, circulated on news sites and blogs in the last few days, quickly becoming one of the most talked about events of the past week in Nigeria revealed the bravery of the officer.

Watch the Video here:

It shows a Honda car entering the bank premises, only to be followed by a black Hyundai Elantra, some seconds later. Four men emerged from the vehicle, blocking the bank gate, with three holding weapons, which looked like AK47 rifles.

The video shows the first person out of the vehicle releasing a shot which caused many people at the entrance of the bank, including the uniformed security man, who opened the gate to flee as they reached out to their targeted bank customer.

But the robbers were swiftly engaged in a gun battle. Shots rang out from the security post at the bank’s entrance, shattering the car windows. An occupant of the car, one of the armed gang shot back. But one of the robbers, who had tried  to attack the occupant of the security post, was instantly shot dead.
The video shows officer Iboko who shot him escaping from security post, while one of the other robbers pursued and shot after him.

The Imo State Police Command told our correspondent that  owing to the multiple gunshot injuries sustained by Policeman, Iboko, he succumbed to his injuries two months later while in intensive care.

Spokesperson for the command, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, explained that two other policemen were in the security post during the shootout and also sustained gunshot injuries.

“They were in intensive care for up to two months. The two survived but Iboko died. He was a sergeant and mobile policeman,” Enwerem said.

Prodded for more details, Enwerem said he did not have information about the deceased policeman’s age or his hometown.

Since the video became viral, there have been calls to reveal the fate of the cop as Nigerians demanded more recognition and honour for the deceased policeman.

On Twitter, many said such heroes must be celebrated.

A five year old girl was raped in Anambra few days ago. Now, following her rape in a  Kindergarten school in Anambra state, it has been gathered that the owners of the school are offering the victim’s family N100,000 to bury the case.

Emeka Ugwuonye of DPA, disclosed this in his post. He wrote:

“DPA has just stopped an attempt to bury the case of the rape of a 5-year old girl in kindergarten in Awka, Anambra State.

Yesterday, DPA got involved in the investigation of a rape case involving a 5-year old girl. We got the wind that the father of the girl was offered 100k by the owners of the kindergarten where the incident occurred in order for him to bury the case.

I warned the man not to accept the money, but to work with DPA to ensure the arrest of the rapist. At the same time, DPA dispatched a team of investigators to the crime scene. Our investigators swooped in on them as they were exchanging money to cover up the case.

They even wrote up an agreement to close the case . DPA operatives took pictures of their illegal agreement and pictures of them exchanging money. We shall now be seeking the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in this macabre deal.

We have the picture of the girl and her father and the owner of the kindergarten handing over money to him. DPA is going to crack down on all those who harm innocent children in this country.

The rape of a 5- year old and the use of money to cover it up are crimes we must fight against. I will be heading from Abuja straight to Anambra State where I intend to meet with the Governor over this case.”
