The Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday expressed shock at news of the death of former Nigeria international player and one-time Head Coach of the Supersand Eagles, Kelechi Emeteole. He was 66. Emeteole, who won 17 caps for the Senior National Team (then known as Green Eagles) and scored four goals, between 1975 and 1977, died in the early hours of Wednesday in India where he had gone for surgery on throat cancer.

“The death of Mr. Kelechi Emeteole came to us as a rude shock. A year ago, we lost two legends in the persons of Stephen Keshi and Shaibu Amodu in the month of June. This year, also in the month of June, we have now lost another legend who served the nation creditably, energetically and meritoriously.

“Our hearts go out to his caring family that he has now left: his doting wife and children as well as relations. We pray that they will have the fortitude to bear the loss. We also pray that the soul of the departed finds eternal rest. Nigerian Football will miss him dearly,” NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, told thenff.com.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Bekewei Francis and his son David for alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State. Late Olumide Odimayo was allegedly abducted by some hoodlums in his house at Igbotu in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State last Thursday and he was also allegedly killed by the suspected kidnappers. The abductors allegedly threw the deceased’s lifeless body into a river between Sabomi and Igbotu communities in LGA.

The police, however, arrested eight persons, including Francis and his son, in connection with the kidnap. The other six arrested alongside the father and son are Fikesei Inuesokan, Ekan Roman, Gbamila Success, Bodidi Idowu, Saturday Amos and Ijanboh Kehinde. They were paraded at the police headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital on Wednesday. Parading the suspects, the Ondo State Police Command, Mrs Hilda Harrison confirmed that the suspects were among the hoodlums that kidnapped and killed the APC chieftain, noting that no fewer than 15 persons were involved in the dastardly act. The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked reports that Christian Religious Knowledge, CRK, has been removed as a subject of study from the curriculum of public secondary schools in Nigeria while Islamic Religious Studies, IRS, has been reintroduced.

Debunking the report, Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Chinenye Ihuoma, pointed out that the ministry had designed a new subject which merged Civic Education, IRS, CRK and Social Studies into “Religion and National Values.”

Mrs. Ihuoma told reporters that, “The alternation is not from the minister, this is purely from the National Council on Education. It is just as the council has said that History should be a subject of its own at the basic level in the first nine years.

“Now, a new subject has been introduced, called Religion and National Values. It is a fusion of religion and civics.

“I have not seen the details but in a case where you have subject combinations in the same period, everyone will attend lectures that correspond with their own religion.

“Arabic and Islamic Studies are not standing alone. Islamic Religious Study and Christian Religious Study as well as national values will be taught under a new subject.”

After spending two days in a forest in Imo State , the anti -kidnapping unit of the State Police Command has rescued, unhurt , a Catholic priest , Rev . Father Charles Nwachukwu, who was abducted by some gunmen.

This is even as the police have recovered a human skull in a shrine in Umuanu, in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
A police source told our correspondent on Tuesday that the priest was abducted by the kidnappers on June 16 , 2017, at Amauzari in the Isiala Mbano LGA of the state at about 8 pm.

Confirming the incidents to newsmen on Tuesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said the victim was rescued in an Agbaja forest in the Nwangele LGA of the state on Saturday.

Agbaja is where the late kidnap kingpin, Henry Chibueze, popularly known as Vampire, was freed by his gang members in January at the premises of Imo High Court, Owerri; before he was finally mowed down during a gun duel with the police in Rivers State in February.

The Police boss said that three suspects in the kidnap case of the Catholic priest were arrested by his men. He gave the names of the alleged kidnappers as Oga Dina Ajonuwma, Chinedu Odoemenam and Uzoma Mejuru. Ezike said, “ Rev Father Charles Nwachukwu has been rescued unhurt. He was rescued on Saturday in a forest in Agbaja in the Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State. “ Three of the kidnappers were nabbed immediately”.

He said that the Toyota jeep, golden colour with registration number, WER 334 NJ belonging to the Catholic Church priest was also recovered by the police.
The CP stated that the priest had identified the suspects as his abductors, to which the suspects had also made confessional statements.

“The victim has identified the three suspects. They have also made confessional statements to us. Investigations are ongoing.

“We will charge them to court. We will not rest on our oars until all the bad elements are flushed out of the state. “Imo people have a right to enjoy our protection and that is what we are offering them,” Ezike said.

The priest said his abductors had demanded N 100m ransom for his release.
He said the suspects forcefully obtained the code of his ATM card and withdrew about a half a million Naira from one of his accounts.

One of the suspects, Odoemenam, who confessed to the kidnap, said he was also involved in car snatching and other criminal activities.

In addition to the human skull that was recovered from the shrine of a native doctor, Chidera Njoku, the CP said 82 rounds of ammunition, three AK - 47 magazines, one locally-made revolver pistol, one locally made single barrel short gun, two axes, one identity card belonging to Njoku and photographs were recovered.

Police has since declared the suspect him wanted .
His mother has, however, been arrested; and is helping the police with the possible whereabouts of her fleeing son. “We got intelligence and information about the activities of the native doctor.

“With the help of a search warrant, we searched his house and shrine, where we found the human skull and other exhibits.
“He ran away. We have declared him wanted and his mother is with us.
“She is helping us in the investigation. I assure Imo people that we will get him, ” Ezike said.

Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, the managing director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited has been released from DSS’s detention. Sources said the oil mogul was released yesterday night unconditionally by the Department of State Services after a “No Case” was established, following a tedious investigation by the DSS in his rift with the NNPC. The DSS had arrested Dr. Ubah over his alleged connection with a claimed theft of petrol kept in his tank farm in Lagos by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. The product, it said, was valued at over N11 billion. The agency said Ubah’s action amounted to economic sabotage, with “capacity to negatively impact on national economy.”

A statement by its spokesman, Tony Opuiyo had said further that Ubah was also arrested because he further engaged in other activities inimical to national security and public order. “In furtherance of his gimmicks to undermine the government and people of Nigeria, he has incited members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), a critical player in the downstream sub-sector of the Petroleum Industry, to refuse/stop the lifting of products. “This is part of his plans to curry their sentiments and cause them to embark on strike and also stage protests in his favour with the ulterior motive of arm-twisting the NNPC to abandon the cause of recovering the stolen products. The implications of this on law and order is, in fact, a common knowledge. It is consequent upon this that the Service arrested and will prosecute him forthwith. “The public is hereby reassured that the Service will collaborate with appropriate agencies to ensure that the mischievous activities of any person or group(s) to engage in illegal activities will not affect the effective distribution of products across the country. It will also support such agencies to bring to book individuals or companies involved in any criminal act that undermines the nation’s economy”.

However, the source from Ubah’s camp who also confirmed his release said the oil magnate decided to keep his release on a low key. Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, had accused Ubah of diverting its product in his tank farm amounting to N11billion.
