The National Assembly resolved on Monday that the 1999 Constitution needs some reforms that would enhance the development of the country. The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who addressed journalists at a retreat for the Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Review of the 1999 Constitution held in Lagos, said some of the contentious issues would be reviewed to meet the yearning of the people.

He said the country would be restructured, noting that railways would no longer be in the exclusive list. He said: “We have broken all the issues into specific bills. Between yesterday and today (Monday) we have looked at about 23 separate bills with separate issues.

The idea is to ensure that by the time we vote, each of them succeed or fail on its own.  When we conclude the work and send it to the House to approve.

The Borno State Police Command said on Monday that at least 12 persons were killed while 18 others injured in multiple suicide bomb attacks in Maiduguri.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Damian Chukwu, stated this while confirming the attack at a news briefing in the state capital. Chukwu said four female suicide bombers were among the dead victims.

The Commissioner, however, said soldiers deployed to Mammanti and Cimeri areas, foiled an attempt by three other suicide female bombers to penetrate Maiduguri metropolis.

Michu, the midfielder who helped Swansea win the League Cup in 2013, has been forced to retire at the age of 31. Spaniard Michu top scored for the Swans with 22 goals in his first season after a £2m move from Rayo Vallecano in 2012.

However, within two years of helping Swansea finish ninth in the Premier League, he was playing fourth-flight football in Spain after a recurring ankle injury. Michu spent the 2016-17 season with Oviedo and plans to move into coaching.

After starting his career with Oviedo, he played for Celta Vigo before joining Rayo Vallecano, and was capped once by Spain in 2013.

Six persons have died in an auto crash which occurred on Monday at Sagamu inter-change area along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The six persons, one male and five females, were a driver and passengers in a Toyota Quest sport utility commercial vehicle with number plate FKJ 297 AJ. The commercial vehicle was reportedly coming from the Lagos end when the incident happened.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the driver of the commercial vehicle was speeding and that the car rammed into a moving Iveco truck with number plate LND 902 XE. All the passengers in the Toyota Quest died, Akinbiyi said. He said, “The accident was caused by speeding by the driver of the Toyota Quest commercial vehicle, who rammed his car into a moving Iveco truck from behind, killing all the occupants. “I could not say where the vehicle was travelling to, but it was coming from Lagos.”

Akinbiyi said the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State.

Fresh effort is being made to end the frosty relationship between the Presidency and the Senate to end their frosty relationship. But the Red Chamber of the National Assembly has given the Aso Rock Villa three conditions it must meet for peace to reign.

Top of the conditions is the removal of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and the withdrawal of a statement credited to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo through Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State that there is no going back on Magu’s nomination.

The other conditions include Presidency’s compliance with the resolutions/decisions/summons of the National Assembly on budget and other issues, as well as prevailing on Power, Works and Housing Minister Babatunde Raji Fashola to withdraw his statement attacking the integrity of the National Assembly.

Arsenal completed their Australian tour with a 3-1 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers with all their goals coming in the first half in Sydney on Saturday. The Gunners scored their goals in an 11-minute period late in the first half through Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny. The English giants were held in the second half with the 2014 Asian Champion League winners pulling a goal back off an indirect free kick from Steven Lustica.

Arsenal leave for China winning both games on their first tour to Australia in 40 years after beating A-League champions Sydney FC 2-0 on Thursday. “They made it quite physical for us, they pushed us a little bit and we played very well for long periods in the first half,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. “The players who came on in the second half gave us more impetus and we finished strongly, unfortunately, we couldn’t score anymore but overall it was a positive game.”

The game drew 83,221 fans for a two-game total of 163,653 for Arsenal’s visit.
