Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), says Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, was not pushed out of the party.

He said this on Monday at the party secretariat in Abuja while responding to questions on the withdrawal of Ortom.

Ortom had announced that APC had given him a “red card” and this would enable him to join any political party that has an ideology worthy of being adopted by his administration.

But the party chairman said he could not comment on the basis of rumour, saying APC would dig into the matter and react accordingly.

“This party will not comment on the basis of rumours and I am sure eventually we will find out the fact of the matter and base on those facts, we would act,” he said.

“I know that Ortom is a prominent member of the party. He has said repeatedly to me one on one that he will not leave the APC unless he was pushed out.

“I have since assumed the chairmanship of this party along with my brothers and sisters in the national working committee and I know that we have not shut out any governor, certainly not Ortom.”

The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, has said that he was never imprisoned for theft in the United States of America.

The state House of Assembly, which commenced impeachment against him on Tuesday during plenary, had accused him of being an ex-convict, among other allegations.

The impeachment petition, which was signed by 14 lawmakers, was moved by the deputy speaker, Ugonna Ozuruigbo.

But a statement issued shortly afterwards by the deputy governor’s chief press secretary, Uche Onwuchekwa, said that Madumere was not guilty of any of the allegations.

The statement said that the deputy governor had not been convicted anywhere in the world of any civil matter, not to mention a criminal one.

Madumere said that the two times he had been clamped into detention were mainly to save Governor Rochas Okorocha from embarrassment.

According to him, the allegations “were just to call the dog a bad name in order to hang it.”

The statement reads in part, “By our records, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has never abdicated any of his responsibilities.

“There are laid down procedures through which a Deputy Governor or any member of the executive Council can be invited for Executive Council Meeting. We hereby state that the Deputy Governor has never been invited for such meetings, either through a memo or via any official notices and thereby cannot stand against the deputy governor within the period in review.

“Refusal to attend, and to hold meetings with the governor is, to say the least, another exercise in triviality as the deputy governor cannot force himself on the governor, especially when he has been tagged a pariah in the government circle.

“To this extent, where the Deputy Governor’s inputs are needed, there are right procedures through which he could be reached.

The most embarrassing among the spurious allegations is the annoying allegation of concealment of felonious conduct affecting the presentation of self as eligible candidate of office of Deputy Governor of Imo State.

“The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has never been convicted of any civil matter, let alone, theft.

“We are pained to state that the two occasions that the Deputy Governor had to go through the pains of losing his freedom in detention were all in the course of saving Owelle Rochas Okorocha from public disgrace.

“It will be recalled that Prince Madumere, shortly after Achike Udenwa’s victory at the polls in 1999, had to face contempt of Court for failure to make it to the court.

“He was in detention in the United States for about one month all because he was delayed by Governor Okorocha. To the glory of God, Prince Madumere was acquitted of any wrongdoing.

“The second time he had to stoop low so that Governor Okorocha might be spared the humiliation of getting incarcerated, Prince Madumere again yielded and was detained for almost two months on phony charges, which he was also absolved of.”

The Imo State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment process against the deputy governor, Eze Madumere.

The Deputy Speaker, Ugonna Ozuruigbo, who moved the motion that the impeachment process be served on the embattled deputy governor, accused him, among other things , of abandoning his duties and office as the state’s number two citizen for a long time.

The lawmaker representing Oru West LGA, Donatus Onuigwe, who opposed the impeachment proceedings, was suspended by the Speaker immediately.

The plenary , which is tension-soaked, is currently ongoing.

Armed security men had barricaded the entry and exit points of the complex.

The lawmakers also accused Madumere of:
– Refusing to carry out official duties assigned to him by the governor

– Refusal to attend State Executive Council Meetings
– Refusal to hold meetings with the governor and commissioners
–Imprisonment for theft in the USA.

The Speaker, Acho Ihim, said that the petition met and surpassed the required one -third as provided for in Section 188 ( 2) 11 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The Assembly is made up of 27 members, but four members who were sympathetic to Madumere were, penultimate weekend, suspended for “unpaliamentary conduct,” paving way for the impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor.

A six -man committee headed by member, representing Obowo LGA, Kennedy Ibe, was set up to probe the allegations and report back to the House within seven days. Madumere recently fell out with Rochas Okorocha over his succession plans.

While Okorocha wants his chief of staff, Uche Nwosu, to succeed him, Madumere is laying claims to the governorship position, thereby causing problems between them.

Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a pastor in the Assemblies of God Church in Owerri, Chukwuma Okezuo, for allegedly giving prophecies against the state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, during a church service.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem , who paraded the cleric before newsmen on Tuesday, accused him of prophesying during last Sunday’s church service in the Urratta area of Owerri.

The pastor was alleged to have said in his prophecy that the governor was recruiting young boys in the state with the sole aim of kidnapping children between zero and 10 years for ritual purposes.

The police spokesperson said the pastor prophesied that Governor Okorocha was allegedly engaging in the ritual exercises towards the 2019 governorship election in the state. He added that the “false prophecy” was capable of causing rancour and panic in the state.

“I parade before you one acclaimed pastor, Chukwuma Okezuo, of Assemblies of God Church. He was arrested during a church service last Sunday at Owaelu Urratta over false prophecies against the person of the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha.
“The suspect , while on the pulpit, made false prophecies against the governor that he was recruiting young boys to be kidnapping children between zero and 10 years for ritual purposes. He falsely prophesied that the governor was engaging in the ritual purposes with the sole aim of winning the 2019 governorship election and therefore asked the congregation to pray.

“This false prophecy, by this acclaimed pastor, is very malicious and capable of causing rancour, panic, anxiety and disintegrating the state. The Imo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Mr Dasuki Galandanchi, will not watch the people jeopardise the peace of the state.

“Religious leaders should be mindful of the things they say. We will charge the suspect to court for legal action,” he said.

In an interview with Ameborave.com, the 40 -year-old pastor, who hails from the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state, said what the police accused him of was untrue.

He said that he only asked the congregation to pray against untimely death and spiritual manipulations without mentioning the name of anybody including that of the governor.

Gunmen have kidnapped two entertainers, Ugo Stevenson and Izunna Obiakor in Owerri, Imo State and demanded millions of naira as ransom for their release.

Stevenson, a 2008 winner of Nigeria Music Awards, is a popular high life musician, writer and public commentator, while Obiakor is the Chief Executive Officer of Twinstar Lightening and Stage House in Owerri.

The 2008 award winner was reportedly kidnapped around the World Bank area, while he was going home. His wife, who confirmed his abduction in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, said the kidnappers had established contact with her, demanding N5 m as ransom for his release.

Distressed Stevenson’s wife, who said she spoke with her husband, stated that the kidnappers contacted her two days after kidnapping her husband. She said, “The kidnappers have contacted me. They are demanding N5m as ransom for his release. They allowed my husband to speak with me.

“I told them how it is with my husband and family currently. I told them that we didn’t even have N10,000. They asked me to contact his friends. “I am, therefore, calling on his friends to help secure my husband’s freedom. They should not allow him suffer and die. He is just an entertainer, who has spent all his life making people happy. He has offended no one. His friends and the general public should come to my husband’s rescue.”

Meanwhile, Obiakor was reportedly abducted in his jeep. He was kidnapped in Owerri while returning home after the day’ s programme.
One of his friends, who does not want his name mentioned, confirmed Obiakor’s abduction.

The abduction of the two entertainers has generated spontaneous outcry as his friends and fans have taken to the social media, especially Facebook to condemn their abductions and demand their immediate release, unconditionally.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the abduction of Stevenson, said the process of rescuing the victim had commenced. “Stevenson was kidnapped somewhere in Owerri West Local Government Area. The commissioner of police has ordered the processes that would necessitate his release. We are working to ensure that the kidnap victim is rescued alive , unhurt and the kidnappers arrested without delay,” he said.

The abductions of the duo came few days after a popular activist, Paulcy Iwuala, was released after the payment of N7m as ransom.
