Following the recent development in the football industry in Imo state Nigeria, Heartland football club FC players and football lovers across the globe have called on Imo state government to as a matter of urgency sack the entire management of the football club to reposition the FC.

This call was made at the end of the last opportunity the club had to continue in the future competitions but failed to prove their ability to win the match.

It was gathered by our Sports correspodent in Owerri that the wooping one billion 1B Naira claimed to have invested in the club by the state government was not utilized in any way to improve the club.

Imo State Government cliamed to have sunk more than 1Billion Naira into the heartland football club through the house member on sports but to the greatest chagrin of the club no such money was felt in the club neither was the record of expenditure made open to the management of the club.

Players of heartland FC has therefore called for an emergency investigation into such a wooping cliam of money sent through the deputy speaker of Imo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chyma Iwuanyanwu.

Fans in their dissatisfaction have also called on Governor Hope Uzodinma to recall the management of the club and possibly sack all of them to improve the club.

Regrettedly, Imo people are calling on the government to hastily do everything possible to fix back heartland FC to shape. Heartland is the only football club functional in the state and therefore have to be well equipt in every capacity to make the state proud.

It was a great disappointment to the entire state for such a relegation status and charged the players of heartland FC to re-organize themselves and play perfectly for Imolites and football lovers.

At the time of this report calls put across Commissioner for sports did not go through.

Nearly four years after failing, by a small margin, in his bid to govern Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has overcome the biggest obstacle to his dream.

On Saturday, he achieved a hard-fought victory over the state’s incumbent Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state’s governorship election.

Senator Adeleke, 62, riding on the back of a campaign aimed at developing the state and retrieving what he says is his stolen mandate, secured 403,371 votes, 28,344 more than his closest rival, the incumbent governor. Governor Oyetola polled 375,027 votes.

It was enough for the Returning Officer of the election, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, to declare him winner and governor-elect.

“I declare that Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected,” Professor Ogundipe declared, sparking jubilation among Adeleke’s supporters.

Saturday’s election featured 15 contestants with the rematch of Oyetola and Adeleke drawing the most attention.

As the results from the local governments trickled in, it was clear that the election which was generally considered peaceful was a two-horse race between both men.

They split 96.76 per cent of the total valid votes cast in the election.

Kehinde Atanda of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) came in at a distant third with 10,104 votes, followed by Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party with 4,515 votes.

Votes for the other candidates are as follows: Akinade Ogunbiyi, A party — 4,514 votes; Awojide Segun, AAC — 2,148; Kehinde Atanda, ADP -10,104; Awoyemi Lukuman, APM — 1,222; and Adebayo Elisha, APP — 601 votes.

Adeleke Adedapo of BP got 374 votes; Rasaq Saliu, NNPP — 393; Abede Samuel, NRM — 777; Ayowole Adedeji, PRP — 1,007; Omigbodun Akinrinola, SDP — 515; Ademola Adeseye, YPP — 1,303; and Adesuyi Olufemi, ZLP — 364 votes.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. The former Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan and Brentford player has signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford.

"I still have major ambitions in the game. There is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey," Eriksen, 30, said.

"Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started." Earlier in July, Eriksen agreed in principle to sign for United after his short-term contract at Brentford ended in June.

He is United's second signing under new manager Erik ten Hag after Netherlands full-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

“You need a party with a structure if you want to win, a viable party and you need PDP to take over.” This is the assertion made on Thursday by the Lagos state deputy gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Funke Akindele during Channels Television’s flagship programme, Politics Today.

Funke, a popular Nollywood actress and content creator was surprisingly picked as the running mate to Olajide Adediran who described her as large-hearted with a well-known history of service and advocacy. However, the move by Adediran popularly known as Jandor has been greeted with much scepticism in many quarters.

The 44-year-old stressed that her reason for towing the political lines was to effect change in Lagos as she was tired of just talking about the problems facing the Metropolis. ‘I am very compassionate about people, people working with me, children. I have faced different challenges as a Lagosian and I looked at it; are we going to continue like this? No, I am tired of talking let us do something about it.”

“I will like to do this on a big scale, I will like to better the lives of Lagosians and when this opportunity came I jumped at it.” “I live in Lagos, I do not like the way we live in Lagos, and the standard of living is pretty low. Lagos is suffering from infrastructural decay and deficit.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the Continous Voter registration till July 31. Chairman of INEC Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the decision followed a recent court judgement that paved way for the extension.

Okoye stated that the verdict has affirmed that INEC is at liberty to appoint a date of its choice to suspend the CVR, provided it is not later than 90 days before the date fixed for the General Election as provided in Sec. 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022.

According to him, all legal encumbrances have now been removed following the judgement of the Federal High Court. “The CVR is hereby extended for another two weeks until Sunday 31st July 2022, thereby bringing the total duration of the extension to 31 days (1st – 31st July 2022),” he stated.

“The exercise has also been extended to eight hours daily from 9.00 am – 5.00 pm instead of the current duration of six hours (9.00 am – 3.00 pm) daily. The exercise is also extended to include weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) as against only weekdays.”
