Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was conspicuously absent on Wednesday when the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party met the 2023 presidential aspirants of the party at his Asokoro residence in Abuja.

In attendance at the meeting include Dele Momodu, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, Tari Oliver, and Charles Ugwu. Atiku commended them for accepting the outcome of the convention that produced him as the PDP flag bearer, and for not raising the dust.

He promised to work with all of them ahead of the 2023 general elections, adding that they have various roles to play in his victory at the polls. At the primary in May, Atiku polled 371 to defeat his closest rival, Wike, who polled 237 votes.

Following the outcome of the primary, Wike has been at loggerheads with Atiku over his choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate. Wike has also demanded the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, for a southern replacement.

The Federal Government has threatened to sanction foreign airlines operating in the country but refuse to accept naira payment for flight tickets. The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, made this known at a briefing today after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said intelligence reports indicated that some of the airlines refuse to sell in naira but charge ticket fares in dollars instead, in violation of Nigerian laws. The minister disclosed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has been directed to deal with any of such airlines that are caught flouting the laws.

Sirika cautioned them to refrain from using the social media to place their demands rather than resorting to the diplomatic channels. According to him, foreign airlines have made over 1.1 billion dollars so far from Nigeria since 2016, an amount which could have remained in the country if they were local airlines.

He further revealed that the airlines remitted over 600 million dollars to their home countries in 2016, while over 265 million dollars has also been released this year.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has begun recruitment of ad hoc staff in the 2023 general elections. In a statement released Wednesday on its official Facebook page, the electoral umpire urged interested and eligible persons to visit its designated portal.

“The Commission has approved the re-activation of INECPRES both the Mobile App for Android phones only and the web portal (laptops only). “To this end the portal will be open to eligible applicants for registration of all categories of ad-hoc staff (SPO/PO/APO/RATECHS/RAC Managers) except the Collation officers.

“The portal opens on Wednesday the 14th of September and ends on the 30th November, 2022,” the statement partly read.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, had last week said it will publish the final lists of presidential and national assembly candidates on September 20. The electoral body also said campaign will officially commenced on September 28.

The last may not be heard on the political feud between the Ihedioha camp and Sen Anyanwu camp of PDP as there are claims and counter claims in the polity. The Ihedioha camp claimed that Senator Anyanwu talked ill against Wike but the Divine Mandate Movement of Sen. Anyanwu has come out to refute what they term PROPAGANDA.

In a press statement by the Special Assistant to Senator Anyanwu, Comr. Ikenna Onuoha, noted that Sam Daddy never granted any interview on Wike. The statement reads 👇👇👇

Press Statement

Sen. Anyanwu Never Granted Media Interview on Wike

The attention of the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been drawn to a fictitious report in some section of the social media, claiming that he granted a media chat during which he purportedly stated that he had distanced himself from Governor Nyesom Wike of River State.

The said report is completely false, malicious and an extreme act of wicked mischief by desperate power seekers who seek to pitch Sen. Anyanwu against Governor Wike  and cause disaffection in the PDP for their selfish gain.

For the avoidance of doubt, Sen. Anyanwu did not grant any form of media interview, chat or interaction whatsoever at the Cathedral of Transfiguration of Our Lord (CATOL) Owerri before, during or after the celebration of the 80th Birthday Anniversary of a foremost nationalist, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. As such he could not have made any statement on Governor Wike as purported by the said report.

It is therefore shocking that the writer of the fabricated report went to the extent of concocting fictitious quotations and ascribed same to Sen. Anyanwu just to give his libelous story a semblance of fact.

For emphasis, Sen. Anyanwu is a highly cultured leader and had never made any undesirable comment on anybody let alone Governor Wike, a highly respected leader and critical stakeholder in the PDP.

Sen. Anyanwu, as the National Secretary cannot, has not and will never distance himself from any leader in the Party let alone Governor Wike, who remains a prominent leader of our party who has made immense sacrifice for the sustenance of the Party.

In any event, our investigation has revealed where this reprehensible report emanated from. Information at our disposal showed that the writer, Chuks Egemba was an appointee of the ill-fated seven month's administration in Imo state.

We are also aware of how huge sums of money has been released to hack writers to tarnish Sen. Anyanwu’s image and bring him to disrepute in the eyes of the public and among his political associates.

Such individuals are fighting a lost battle as they cannot diminish Sen. Anyanwu’s soaring popularity in Imo State by means of lies, fabrication and fake news.

The National Secretary has already instructed his lawyers to commence necessary action with security agencies for redress over this libelous report in line with our extant laws including those against dissemination of fake news.

We urge the public, leaders and members of the PDP and the media to disregard the said report as completely false and product of the twisted imagination of a wicked soul and their sponsors.

Signed:

Ikenna ONUOHA

Special Adviser (Media) to the National Secretary of PDP

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has described Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who celebrated his 80th birthday on Sunday, as deserving of every honour from family, friends and well wishers alike.

The Governor stated this during his speech after the Thanksgiving Service at the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (CATOL) Owerri. His Excellency recalled Chief Iwuanyanwu's effort in making the Imo State Airport a reality when it was like an aberration for States to own airports in the country.

The Governor took time to extol Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu over his numerous selfless service to the people of Igbo land and Nigeria as a whole. His Excellency further linked the celebration of Iwuanyanwu to his goodwill across the nation.

Governor Hope Uzodimma who graced the occasion with his wife, Chief Barr. (Mrs) Chioma Uzodimma, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prof. Placid Njoku and other Government officials, expressed appreciation to the numerous dignitaries who came to celebrate the iconic nationalist.

"Let me, therefore, appreciate in a very special way those who were in Owerri yesterday to celebrate this iconic figure. I thank our caring President, Muhammadu Buhari for his sincere goodwill message. I equally appreciate former President Goodluck Jonathan for being physically present at the lecture. The guest lecturer, Dr. Nnia Nwodo was at his cerebral best. I didn't expect anything less.

Our own brother, General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd) was also there in flesh and blood. For those who also sent representations, you also deserve my regards. All of us working together gave Ahaejigamba a deserving birthday present," the Governor said.
