As leadership entails credibility, accountability and dedication, Imo people are so conscious of the above to avoid a repeat of previous catastrophic record of abysmal failure in Imo governance.

This is why the people are careful in selecting a leader they can trust without much explanation and conviction.

However, a son of the soil has emerged with such streamlined requisite panache of character with the readiness to deliver whatever responsibilities that may be assigned to him. He is an Amaimo Ikeduru born Legislator and Administrative czar, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu.

No doubt, everyone in Imo State knows him simply as Sam Daddy. But in Nigeria, he is known as Senator Samuel Anyanwu. He represented Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone) in the upper Legislative Assembly.

It is doubtful if anybody will call him any other name than Sam Daddy if he eventually emerges the next governor of the State in 2023.

The reason is not farfetched. His humility and accessibility go before him, not just in Owerri Zone but the entire State. As a man who has lived among the people in the last 25 years, occupying various positions of authority, Sam Daddy is actually regarded and treated as “one of us”.

Sam Daddy, though, has not formally notified Imo people and his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), of his intention to seek the office of governor, has excited the political space in such a manner that even those who are of different political persuasion have confessed that he is the best man to do the job.

But does he actually behave like one who has such a massive followership in the 27 local government areas of the state? The ordinary man in the street does not see such a change in him. What they still perceive is a man that remains approachable, generous and extremely simple in his disposition.

They see a listening ear, a smiling face, a helping hand and a goal-getter whose philosophy in life has remained unity in brotherhood. It is perhaps this humane disposition that saw him transit from a Local government chairman, a House of Assembly member, a Senator and now in a super highway to Government House Owerri.

When his mates were enjoying their new found wealth in hotels in Owerri and Lagos, Sam Daddy chose to establish farms and industries where hundreds of youths were gainfully employed. When his mates were basking in the euphoria of interacting with the high and mighty, Sam Daddy chose to relate with the down-trodden, widows and less privileged members of the society.

The goodwill generated through those early days appears to be now counting in his favour. People believe that he can be trusted. They also believe that he has the vision to govern Imo State.

That vision will be exposed when he will be unfolding his agenda for the State. Industrialization, creation of jobs, rebuilding of infrastructures and prompt payment of salaries are his priorities. These shall not just be mere campaign programmes, but verifiable action plans.

He has done similar things before. He is doing them now. As chairman of Ikeduru Local government, he was the first to pay salaries. The workers who are not happy with government today over salaries received their wages before the 28th of the month all through the period he held sway. With SamDaddy as Governor, all workers in Imo State will receive their salaries as at when due.

With his experience in the business world, Sam Daddy’s pledge that he will revive Imo’s economy is not a mere wishful thinking. His thriving companies attest to his managerial ingenuity. His outstanding performance in the Senate as the Chairman of pubic petitions committee has confirmed his administrative dexterity. He is among the few rookie Senators that chaired committees in the 8th Senate.

Interestingly, the odds favour him as the race to Douglas Road begins to gather momentum. He comes from Owerri Zone, which is the only zone that briefly tasted the governorship position since the current democratic dispensation.

He is young, dynamic and commands the respect of all strata of the society. Above all, he possesses the character and personality most urgently needed to revamp Imo after the wasted years of previous governments.

Among these character traits are reliability, steadfastness, honesty, humility and ability to perform. Sam Daddy is a refreshing contrast from the dictatorial tendencies of the out-gone and outgoing regimes.

The natural question then would be: why Sam Daddy, can he be trusted by Imo people? The counter could also be why not Sam Daddy? But the most germane question ought to be: does Imo require a holistic change from the present? The resounding answer is yes. And the change-agent as represented by Sam Daddy needs to be supported for the tasks ahead.

Being among the few prophets that are respected at home, Sam Daddy enjoys a lot of goodwill from Owerri people because of his respect for elders and loyalty to those who lit his political candle for him.

Yes, Imo does not need an emperor; Imo does not need a man who claims monopoly of knowledge. Imo needs a humble team player who recognizes the masses as the source of his power. Imo requires a man who does not alienate himself from the people who elected him. Imo requires a man who in spite of his high position remembers that he is still a mere servant.

That is why Imo PDP should hold on tight to Sam Daddy and ensure that he is chosen by his party as the candidate for the 2023/2024 elections in the state. Even among the opposition APC, Sam Daddy’s name evokes defeat for them. He is about the only man who enjoys that privilege among all contenders in the PDP fold.

It does mean that Sam Daddy is indispensable, after all he is human. It simply means that he is the most likely candidate to win the governorship election and return Imo to the path of glory once more. The time to change our state is now with Samdaddy.

By so doing, we shall be expecting Imo of our collective dreams!

The appointment of Dr. Stella Ngozi Lemchi as the Provost of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education has shown that the citadel of learning is moving to the right direction because the new Provost has proven beyond every reasonable doubt to be a woman of impeccable character and result oriented.

The very woman of the moment has shown through actions and inactions that she is truly the best person to head the affairs of students in the institution.

For the less than few months she has been at the saddle, the approach has been that of pragmatism and dynamism towards ensuring the welfare of the students.

This is no doubt why they said that a golden fish has no hiding place. Dr. Stella Ngozi Lemchi has demonstrated her willingness and eagerness to change the narrative in Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education thereby creating a conducive environment for learning.

She has shown capacity and the students are full of gratitude for her appointment because they believes in her ability to turn things around and improve on the already laid down foundation of the school.

Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Ngozi Lemchi holds PhD in Home Economics Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, M.Ed Home Economics (UNN), and B. Sc Home Science and Nutrition from UNN. She attended the Federal Government College, Okigwe between 1981 – 1986 where she studied on a Federal Government scholarship.

It will interest you to know that Dr.(Mrs.) Stella Lemchi was the Deputy Provost of the College prior to her appointment. Before that, she had served as the Head of the Department of Home Economics from 2011 to 2015 and the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship from 2015-2019. As a Home Economist, her main areas of interest include entrepreneurship, promotion of skill acquisition and curriculum development. Over the years, she has served on many College Committees most recently as Chairman of the 27th Convocation committee. Others include College Research Committee, Quality Assurance Committee and Academic Board Business Committee. She is a member of the Alvan Volunteer Corps.  She has served as resource person severally to such bodies as United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) and Gender and child Rights Organisation (GCRI) (a non-governmental organisation).  Lemchi is a member of several professional organisations including Home Economics Research Association of Nigeria (HERAN), Curriculum Organisation of Nigeria (CON), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and International Research and Development Institute (IRDI).

Dr Stella Lemchi is an accomplished academic with over 70 publications, in both national and international journals.

She is currently the Vice-Presdent for Africa region, International Federation of Home Economics (IFHE)

Dr. (Mrs) Stella N. Lemchi hails from Ehime Mbano LGA, Imo State. She is married to Professor Jones Lemchi and they are blessed with wonderful and amazing children.

A product of University of Nigeria Nsukka, Dr. Lemchi sterling leadership qualities has endeared her to many in the college who now see her as not just a role model but a case study both in the field of Economic and administration.

It is an obvious fact that the story of Dr. Mrs. Stella Ngozi Lemchi has persistently remained a reference point among students of University of Nigeria Nsukka where the then young Lemchi was schooled before she was employed by the Alvan Ikeokwu college and she has continued to enjoy the support of fellow teachers and students alike.

The Ehime Mbano born academia and humanitarian has shown that she is the ideal person to head the college given the obvious fact that she is a woman endowed with wisdom and knowledge to restore normalcy back to the institution and she knows too well that the students and non academic staffare not to be handled with iron hand hence her friendly approach to student's issues has paid off greatly and instantly within the few months in office as the Provost.

She is humble, honest, sincere and would always pursue agenda and programmes that is of good interest to the students and staff, even before her elevation as the Provost.

This accounts for the close and cordial relationship she enjoys with the students, unlike his predecessors who made themselves inaccessible for the students. Dr. Mrs. Stella Ngozi Lemchi no doubt, is a team player who believes so much in team work and this is evident in the manner she has worked with other deans and heads of departments to promote the ideals of the college.

The college is now singing a new song because the woman who understands the body language of the students, deans and head of departments is handling the affairs right now.

The former Deputy Provost of the college will soon make history as she has returned the glory days of the college back within this few one or two months of her stay as the Provost.

The woman who started her journey in the academic world as a home Economics teacher believes that graduating and mobilizing students immediately they are ready and due for service will create a good image of the college and restore lost public confidence.

She will completely bring out the best in the students and with the same approach she used to do wonders as the former Dean and Deputy Provost respectively.

This is why I took the bold step to commend the college for appointing her as the Provost of the college and within the short period of her appointment, the students has discovered that the right woman is incharge.

It is based on this available evidence that I sincerely applaud the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu for appointing Dr. Stella Ngozi Lemchi as the new Provost of Alvan Ikoku Federal college of Education.

The United States-based Special Counsel to the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Bruce Fein, has petitioned the US Senate and House of Representatives Committee Chairmen, seeking sanctions against President Muhammadu Buhari; and the Attorney General of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami.

Naija News gathered that Fein is seeking sanction for the duo for the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu despite an Appeal Court judgement ordering the release of the IPOB leader.

The letter was captioned: “RE: Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act: Recommending President Joe Biden to impose sanctions against Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerian Attorney General Abubakar Malami for gross violations of internationally recognized human rights against Biafran leader Nnamdi Kanu, including kidnapping, torture, and prolonged arbitrary detention to retaliate for exercising internationally recognized rights to freedom of expression and association.”

The IPOB leader’s lawyer asked the legislature to prevail on US President Joe Biden to impose severe sanctions on Buhari and Malami for flouting both the United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention Opinion, and the Nigerian appeal court judgement ordering immediate release of Kanu.

While liken Buhari and Malami to Russian President Vladimir Putin; Chinese President Xi Jinping; and Saudi Arabian Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, the lawyer urged Congress not to allow them get away with their rascality and lawlessness.

He addressed the letter to Robert Menendez, Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations; Jim Risch, Ranking Member, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations; and Richard Durbin, Senate Committee Chairman on the Judiciary.

Others are Chuck Grassley, Ranking Member, Senate Committee on the Judiciary; Pat Leahy, Senate Committee Chairman on Appropriations, Richard Shelby Ranking Member, Senate Committee on Appropriations; and Honourable Sherrod Brown, House Committee Chairman on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

The letter was also addressed to Pat Toomey Ranking Member, Senate Committee Chairman on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Gregory Meeks, House Committee Chairman on Foreign Relations, among others.

It is very worrisome, suspicious and unethical for the leadership of PDP in Imo State under Chief Charles Ugwuh to defend Emeka Ihedioha in serious issues bordering on Corruption, Letter to Attorney General of the Federation over Mazi Nnamdi Keanu’s release and threat to sustain the insecurity in the state respectively.

In a well structured political party, members of the Working Committee try to be neutral and only interested in matters affecting the party rather than, individual.

We should understand that Emeka Ihedioha is an ordinary member of the party the same way others are, and if the Charles Ugwuh’s led SWC is speaking for Emeka Ihedioha,  that means that they have taken side with an aspirant, contrary to the constitution of PDP.

When one Ikenga Ugochinyere insulted the National Secretary of PDP, what did the Charles Ugwuh’s led SWC do to caution him?  Has Ugwuh led Imo PDP ever issued any press release condemning the myriads of unprovoked media attacks against the National Secretary of the party before, during and after the party’s primaries? The answer is NO!

What of the attacks against Elezianya, Okwulonu, Onyeriri, Ozuruigbo by some party members and outsiders, what did Ugwuh led SWC do to protect the party’s candidates having suddenly resorted to speaking for Ihedioha?

Also, the same state working committee speaking for Emeka Ihedioha today spoke against the National Secretary of the party when issues of payment of backlog of salaries was made open.

The question is, what is more special about an ordinary member of PDP like Ihedioha than a man occupying the second most powerful position in PDP?

The question from Analysts is;  is Ugwuh led SWC the Governorship Campaign Council of Emeka Ihedioha, speaking on his behalf or an unbiased party officers responsible for the party and its members?

A cursory look at Ihedioha reveals that he neither occupies any office in PDP nor more PDP than others to warrant the leadership of the party under Charles Ugwuh to speak as his personal media handlers.

No doubt, Emeka Ihedioha has a Media Aide, Chibuike Onyeukwu and other new media handlers, but it therefore smacks of ignorance and administrative ineptitude for a formidable party like PDP under Chief Ugwuh to continue to embarrass themselves by speaking on behalf of an individual while leaving other party activities in abeyance.

Retrospectively, some bigwigs of PDP in the state before and currently, Mike Ahamba (SAN), Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Senator Chris Anyanwu, Chief Achike Udenwa, Ikedi Ohakim, Ada Okwuonu and Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu etc, have had one issue or the other in the past without the leadership of PDP in the state speaking for them. They spoke for themselves as individuals.

But in the case of Ihedioha, Charles Ugwuh and his inexperienced State Working Committee are busy issuing counter press releases when the accused person, Ihedioha has not come out to say yes or no to the allegations.

It therefore becomes a deliberate mischief making and lack of understanding or mastery of their functions as a party, for Chief Ugwuh and his colleagues to be interested in personal issues concerning Emeka Ihedioha when the later has recruited staff to speak for him.

Recently, the National Chairman of PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu was accused of collecting N1 billion and N100 million respectively by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the National Chairman did not asked the party’s National Publicity Secretary to speak for him, rather he allowed his Media Adviser to speak for him.

This shows that Iyorchia Ayu understands the workings of the party, and that PDP is different from him, while Chief Ugwuh does not understand the separation between PDP and Ihedioha or other members.

A matter of serious concern like threat to sustain the ongoing killings in the state, siphoning of a whooping sum of over N19.5 billion and call for the continued detention of Mazi Kanu by Emeka Ihedioha should not be swept under the carpet. Ugwuh at his level in life, should have known that Ihedioha is different from PDP, and so, the party cannot Speaker for him.

Charles Ugwuh and his cohorts should have allowed the security agents or agencies to do their job and also allow Ihedioha to speak for himself before dabbling into the mater.

For dragging the party into a personal issues affecting an individual as Ihedioha is an indication that Ugwuh and his executive do not know the reason why they were elected. It therefore shows that Ugwuh and cohorts are only acting a script of one man while holding power on trust for PDP members in Imo state.

Ugwuh’s led Imo PDP is a big disgrace to our modern day politicking. He should allow Ihedioha’s media handlers to do their works rather than trying to show that he is a good “boy” to Ihedioha.
