- Says, No Ambition Is Worth The Blood Of Any Citizen

Ahead of the 2023 elections, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has called on politicians across party lines to play within the ambit of the law, saying that no personal ambition is worth the blood of any citizen.

Anyanwu, while advising them to embark on issue base campaigns to sustain the peace and unity of the society, also warns against act capable of heating up the polity or endangering the lives and property of the people in a desperate bid to win election.

The PDP National Scribe therefore urges them to close ranks with security agencies to boost the fight against corruption, insecurity, and banditry, noting that free and fair elections can only be achieved under a secured environment.

He further condemns in its strongest term the used of provocative and unguarded statements as means of sensitizing the electorates, adding that by now, the new crop of politicians would have seen reasons to jettison politics of calumny and acrimony while working to undermine their opponents.

According to him, “only politicians without any tangible programme to offer to the masses are in the habit of blackmailing others in order to score cheap political relevance. No reasonable person with standardized blue print struggle to ruin his opponents. This type of politics must stop” he stated.

He therefore enjoins those jostling for positions to unveil their programmes to the people as a guide, adding that until they understand the importance of issue base campaign, their ambitions remain inconsequential to the society.

Recently, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the timetable for the conduct of Imo Governorship elections. According to the electoral body, the Imo Governorship Election will hold on 11th November, 2023.

With this announcement, political parties have started putting machineries to pick their candidates while many political gladiators have started rolling up their sleeves for the battle ahead.

In the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the race for the governorship ticket is gradually becoming interesting with the speculation of the governorship ambition of some political bigwigs. One of the political heavyweights who is eyeing the governorship seat of Imo is a former LGA Chairman, House MEMBER and Senator and the incumbent National Secretary of PDP, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (SamDaddy).

Senator Samuel Anyanwu has shown leadership capacity having rose through the ranks of executive and legislative services. His performance and leadership credentials dwarf all his opponents in the race for the ticket. Senator SamDaddy towers above all his likely challengers in the PDP guber turf. This is because he has what it takes to win the election for PDP immediately he secures the guber ticket.

Senator SamDaddy is the best man for the job at this critical moment because of his character and charisma which makes him a man of the people. As you are all aware, Imolites have suffered so much and therefore needs a man with a golden heart who will bend down and work for the people without unnecessary distractions. Recent surveys show that Imolites don’t need a governor who is too rigid to forgive people who offended him. Inability to forgive will lead to vindictiveness. This vindictiveness will create many enemies and subsequently provoke many battles for the governor which will undoubtedly disrupt governance.

SamDaddy’s commitment to good governance is legendary and this places him far above all his potential opponents. Senator SamDaddy has a forgiving spirit; he doesn’t habour ill feelings even against those who wronged him. Therefore, Senator SamDaddy has no enemies to fight. This will make his reign peaceful and development-driven. Fighting loads of political enemies will take a toll on the state finances and definitely hamper the development of the state. SamDaddy doesn’t have enemies to fight; so he will utilize the state’s resources for the development of the state.

Unlike those who are planning to come back for a vendetta mission having failed in their bid to be Governor on two previous occasions, SamDaddy is not vying for the governorship seat in order to settle political scores with anyone but to use his leadership experience to pull Imo out of the woods and create wealth for accelerated development of the state.

As a man of the people, Senator SamDaddy is at peace with virtually all leaders of Imo State and therefore possesses the temperament to pilot the affairs of the state.

As 11th November, 2023 beckons, the qualities enumerated above place Senator SamDaddy in a pole position of being the popular choice of his party, PDP during the primary election and Imolites during the Imo governorship election.

To God be the glory!

…Fixes Nov 15 for hearing.....

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to respond to a fresh suit that is seeking to disqualify the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, over alleged breach of section 90(3) of the Electoral Act.

The court, in a ruling that was delivered by Justice Ahmed Mohammed, equally granted leave to the plaintiff, Incorporated Trustees of Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International, to apply for an order of mandamus against the INEC boss, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

It ordered the INEC Chairman, the APC and Tinubu, who were all cited as 1st to 3rd defendants in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1960/2022, to file their defence before November 15, when it adjourned the matter to, for hearing.

Specifically, the plaintiff, through its team of lawyers led by Mr. Jideobi Johnmary, is praying the court for; “A declaration that having regard to the clear, unambiguous and express provisions, sprit and tenor of Section 90 (3) read alongside section 84 (13) of the Electoral Act 2022, the 1st defendant, has deliberately refused to exercise the powers, mandate and statutory duty/obligation bestowed on him in section 84 (13) of the Electoral Act 2022.

“To immediately exclude, expunge and remove the 3rd defendant’s name Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the final list of presidential candidates contesting the 2023 presidential election for failure of the 2nd Defendant to comply with the mandatory provisions of section 90 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

“A declaration that by operation of law and having regard to the clear, unambiguous and express provisions, sprit and tenor of Section 90 (3) read alongside section 84 (13) of the Electoral Act 2022, the 3rd defendant Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not a candidate for the 2023 Presidential election.

“He is automatically excluded, expunged, and removed from participating in the 2023 presidential election for failure of the 2nd Defendant to comply with the mandatory provisions of section 90 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022 in nominating the 3rd defendant as its presidential candidate.

“An order of mandamus directing and compelling 1st defendant to exercise the powers, mandate and statutory duty/ obligation bestowed on him in section 84 (13) of the Electoral Act 2022, to immediately exclude, expunge and remove the 3rd Defendant’s name Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the final list of presidential candidates contesting the 2023 presidential election for failure of the 2nd Defendant to comply with the mandatory provisions of section 90 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022 in nominating the 3rd defendant as its presidential candidate”.

As well as, “An order nullifying and setting aside as illegal, null and void, the nomination of the 3rd defendant as the presidential candidate of the 2nd defendant for failure of the 2nd defendant to comply with the mandatory provisions of section 90 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022”.

On grounds upon which it instituted the action, the plaintiff argued that by the provision of section 90 (3) of the 2022 Electoral Act, no political party in Nigeria is allowed to receive any contribution, of cash or kind, exceeding N50million, without showing the source of the contribution to INEC.

“The APC advertised for contributions and its members (by way of payment for forms) into its accounts by various members desiring to contest for various elections under its platform.

“The 3rd defendant picked his form through his supporters led by James Faleke, Dayo Adeyeye and Babachir Lawal and he paid 100m cheque/bank draft to the 2nd defendant.

“The APC did receive N100m from aspirants for the office of President, and has proceeded to send to INEC, the name of one of the aspirants who paid the said N100m as its candidate for the election, without a submission verifying the source of the N100 million it received from the aspirant to INEC.

“The 2nd Defendant failed to comply with the mandatory provisions of section 90 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022 in nominating the 3rd defendant as its presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

“INEC is bound by s.84(13) of the electoral act to exclude APC and the candidate it submitted for failure to comply with section 90 (3)”, the plaintiff averred, adding that it resorted to the court action after INEC failed to act on its petition.

“Nigeria’s democracy is under serious of threat by corrupt activities of politicians elected to serve the people in various positions and the ongoing fight against corruption will not succeed unless citizens and civil society organizations support the government in the fight against corruption through a public interest suit of this nature.

“This application is in the overall public interest to promote good governance, public accountability, constitutional democracy and rule of law in nomination of candidate to contest the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which is a public office”, it added.

As the build up to the 2023 elections gather momentum, the Apex socio political group of the Mbaise Nation, Mbaise Patriots Assembly in a well attended meeting on Sunday, 6th November, 2022 at the Country home of the political leader of Nguru bloc, Barr Anamelechi Aguwa and former Attorney general of Imo state unanimously resolved that the Mbaise people will no longer succumb to the blackmail of a self-centered Mbaise project by a few discredited individuals, whom they described as ultra greedy politicians.

They further stated that anybody who is a true born of Mbaise should know that the rest of Owerri zone have been very benevolent and patient to have given our son, Hon Emeka Ihedioha and by extension our people ( Mbaise nation) two straight opportunities to occupy the seat of the governorship of Imo state in 2015 and 2019.

In a press release issued after the meeting and availed to the media, the Mbaise patriots thanked other components of Owerri zone namely, Owerri - Uratta, Ngor Okpala and Mbaike blocs for overwhelmingly supporting the bid of their son, Hon Emeka Ihedioha on two consecutive occasions to clinch the Imo Douglas House seat.

They further thanked Imolites in general for showing understanding and support in the quest for a governor of Imo from Owerri zone extraction.

They enjoined Nde Owerri and Imolites in general to disregard any call for Mbaise governorship project in 2023, as it's self serving, unduly parochial and unreasonable at this time.

They promised to lead a vigorous charge built on negotiation, persuasion and diplomacy to the people of okigwe and Orlu, seeking their continued understanding to realise the noble ambition of producing an Imo governor of Owerri zone extraction in 2023.
