Ex-Nigerian lawmaker Ned Nwoko also says that if southerners marry four wives, prostitution will reduce in Nigeria.

By Ovwe Medeme.

The former Nigerian lawmaker, Ned Nwoko, may not be vocal about social issues, but he does have some controversial opinions.

The lawyer and philanthropist, who is married to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, has expressed concerns about moral decadence in Nigerian society.

In an interview with The Guardian Nigeria, Mr Nwoko, who is contesting the Delta North senatorial election, said that by refusing to marry more than one wife, men, especially those from Southern Nigeria, are pushing women into prostitution.

In his view, many women are alone without husbands, especially in the southern part of the country, a factor he said leads to prostitution.

“What some of our girls do to make ends meet is regrettable, and if our men emulate their northern counterparts by having more than one wife, that could probably change the situation.

“The average southerner may have only one wife, but many girlfriends also, and he is spending his money on the girlfriends, sometimes even more than on his wife.

“The man who has three wives, every money he makes is spent on the family, and he is likely not to have any girlfriends or concubines. The money those with several girlfriends spend on them is a gift, is not an investment in the family.”

Population implications

According to the former House of Representatives member, those complaining that the North is more populated than the South have no basis for complaints.

He said southerners give birth to an average of four children, while a northern man, with at least four wives, gives birth to an average of 20 children.

“So, the south may never catch up with the north in terms of population. We deceive ourselves by counting cows and cattle, which is false because they depend on human beings, their children and their wives.

“All you can now do is, if any law stops you from marrying wives, it should be relaxed. Powerful can behave like your grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who were powerful men before the advent of the whites, who came and told you it should be one man, one wife.”

The Ooni effect

The politician, who holds a degree in Law and History from the University of Keele, UK, also drew similarities between himself and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ọjájá II, who recently took six wives in one swoop.

In 2019, Mr Nwoko married actress Regina Daniels and now has two kids with her.

He said that aside from him and the Ooni being polygamists, their grandfathers were both in the House in the Old Western Region in the 1950s.

“The Ooni and I have a common background because our grandfathers were kings and served Nigeria in that capacity. And we are now also serving Nigeria by having many wives,” he said.

Family bonding

Like the Osun monarch, Mr Nwoko has six prominent wives, but they don’t live together.

Describing them as prominent women in their rights, he said they all live in different places worldwide.

“Two are in New York, in the United States (US), two are here in Nigeria, and two are in Dubai. But sometimes, they meet here (his Delta State country home); here is the meeting point,” he said.

Mr Nwoko, seeking to represent Delta North senatorial district under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), explained that, as a rule, he travels with only one wife at a time.

“I travel with one wife at a time. Usually, like once, it happened that I travelled with Regina and Laila. But usually, I travel with the kids, the younger kids.

“I have 19 children now, and my oldest is 30. Those with my first wife are all graduates now. My last child with her made a First Class last year in England. So, they are on their own; they are independent and go on holidays with their friends, not even with their mother, who is a lawyer or me,” he added.

The politician admits that Ms Daniels is the favourite but only because she is the last. He also said that she influenced him to become more active on social m

_ As Ruling Imo APC Lay Ambush For Ihedioha

.....Commends IMHA For Passing Uzodinma's Executive Bill, Imo State Financial Crimes  Commission And Complaints Bill

As the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP releases time table/schedule for the 2023 Imo PDP Governorship primaries, prospective delegates have been admonished to vote wisely so as not to end up regretting their decision.

This is coming on the heels of sledge hammer delivered by a Federal High Court in Akwa Ibom State sentencing governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Sen Bassey Albert to 42 years in prison for fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had in 2019 arraigned Albert on a six-count charge of allegedly taking possession of six vehicles worth N204million when he was Finance Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State.

Albert Bassey was said to have collected one of the vehicles from Jide Omokore, an associate of Diezani Alison Madueke, a former minister of Petroleum.

Omokore reportedly had dealings with the state when he offered Albert the vehicle.

Albert, a serving Senator representing Akwa Ibom Northeast district, was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP but was schemed out from the political calculation as the sitting governor had already anointed his successor against the candidacy of Albert Bassey.

Our Correspondent gathered from impeccable sources that the incumbent governor of the state discovering the overwhelming influence Albert Bassey's portends  may have influenced the revisit of Albert's criminal charges pending in EFCC resulting to recall of his files with the Crimes Commission which was followed up with litigation in Court.

It was learnt that Albert was advised to drop his guber ambition which he vehemently declined, no wonder his perceived political opponents dusted his files in EFCC custody in relation to criminal charges which led to the recent Court judgement sentencing him to prison some couple of days ago.

In similar development, We gathered that a former governor of Imo State who was sacked by the apex Court on grounds of not securing two-third votes across the 27 LGAs in the state in comformity with the Electoral Act as amended.

Our Imo State House of Assembly Correspondent gathered that some couple of months ago, the House of Assembly passed an Executive Bill otherwise referred to as Imo State Financial Crimes Commission And Complaints Bill, a bill which was sponsored by the governor to empower the state to prosecute financial crimes against the state.

Few weeks after passage of the bill, it was learnt that the Imo State House of Assembly petitioned the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC urging them to investigate a whopping sum of *19.5Billion* misappropriated by the sacked Imo governor, Hon Emeka Ihedioha during his Seven months short-lived administration.

Ihedioha our Judiciary Correspondent gathered filed a suit, praying the Court to grant him perpetual injunction on any trial or prosecution by the Imo state government linking him to any financial Misappropriation during his tenure as governor of the state.

IMOBREAKINGNEWS gathered that with the recent Supreme Court judgement giving powers to the state to prosecute financial crimes by individuals against the state thereby shutting out the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC from prosecuting crimes against States of the Federation,  the Imo State Financial Crimes Commission And Complaints Bill sponsored by the Imo State Government was timely and an ambush should incase Hon Emeka Ihedioha declares Interest to contest Imo governorship come 2023.

In an interactive chat with a Labor Party Chiefraincy in the state and legal luminary who pleaded on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the sponsored Imo State Executive Bill was designed specifically for the Imo state ousted governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

Continuing, he said "I advise Imo PDP to trade with caution and review their strategy.

As a leader in Labor Party, am only interested in the Presidential Election as am very convinced that Labor Party lacks capacity to produce Uzodinma's successor.

Hence, I will advise the only coordinated opposition Political Party in the state if they put their house in order will reclaim their victory come 2023.

For clarity sake, Imo PDP should by now discover that Uzodinma wants to return as governor by hook or crook and he had already shut out any governorship hopeful in Imo APC imposing himself as the sole candidate of the party ahead next year's Imo APC Guber primaries. It becomes pertinent that the only visible and articulate opposition political party in the state, the Imo PDP should go back and review the emergency Imo State Financial Crimes Commission And Complaints  Bill, while reviewing, they should inquire to know why the Executive Bill was hurriedly passed by the Imo State House of Assembly.

Also, they should investigate further, who sponsored the petition to EFCC mandating the financial crimes commission to prosecute Hon Emeka Ihedioha where they alleged misappropriation of 19.5Billion Naira linked to Ihedioha.

A Commission of Inquiry set up by Ihedioha which when Gov Hope Uzodinma took over, extended their mandate by adding the Ihedioha's 7 months administration found Ihedioha guilty and recommended for his prosecution.

Also the Imo State House of Assembly also, set up an Investigative panel which also found Ihedioha guilty of Financial Misappropriation recommended his prosecution.

The big question here is why did the Gov Uzodinma's administration after passing the Financial Crimes Commission And Complaints Bill and signing it into Law did not proceed to charge Ihedioha immediately but hid the panel report and the Financial Crimes Bill to buy time and wait if Ihedioha will pick the PDP Guber ticket before they will proceed with his prosecution.

Finally, I will advise the party to counsel Ihedioha in his best interest not to contest the governor else, he may be heading to Prison like Sen Albert Bassey from Akwa Ibom, he said.

Meanwhile, when NewsGaztte reached out to Imo PDP Chairman, Engr Charles Ugwu to get his view regarding the controversial Imo State Financial Crimes  Commission And Complaints Bill, all efforts proved abortive.

On Friday, December 2nd, 2022, the good news took the center stage of the airwaves as former Members of Imo State House of Assembly from 2003 - 2015 unanimously endorsed the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samdaddy Anyanwu as their sole Governorship Candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.

From the news, it was discovered that the motion for the endorsement and adoption of Senator SamDaddy Anyanwu as sole Guber Candidate was moved by member that represented Obowo State Constituency, Hon Celestine Ngobiwu, and seconded by former member for Isu State Constituency, Hon Innocent Onwuemenyi (Sintesis) on behalf of their colleagues and resolved as follows:

1. That since Senator Anyanwu served as Lawmaker in Imo State House of Assembly where he displayed exceptional panache and leadership sagacity, he is most qualified to be the next Governor of Imo come 2023.

2. That Since Senator Anyanwu has traversed round the Executive as LGA Chairman, House of Assembly member and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is more experienced than others.

3. That since he held sensitive positions in virtually all critical sectors in the state, he is more knowledgeable and understands the Imo problem more than contemporaries jostling for the plum job and he is capable to solve them as soon as he takes oath of office as executive governor of the State.

4. That since non of the past and present Governors ever made Law for the growth of Imo state at the state Chambers apart from Senator Anyanwu, he stands a better chance to save the state and the people from insecurity, economic quagmire, debilitating hunger, penurious starvation and avoidable corruption.

Other former members of the State Assembly present included, Hon Bede Ekeh, Hon Ngozi Ogbu, Hon Damian Ogu, Hon Bruno Ukoha, and Hon Dr Emeka Nwofor, among others.

Such a good news does not come so easily if the individual solely endorsed and adopted is not a round peg in a round hole.

Convincingly, Senator Samdaddy Anyanwu represents that attribute of a good leader struggling and working assiduously to save and salvage his people.

What is remarkable about his endorsement and adoption is that, since the history of Imo Governorship seat from Mbakwe till date, non of the Governors had ever served Imo at the State Assembly to know the major cause of our state’s problems.

This is not only memorable, meritorious and acceptable, but thoughtful and thinkable considering the period Imo people are into.

Currently, Imo State needs a man with the Midas touch, a man that is tested and trusted, one with vast knowledge of the state’s economy.

A true leader with less desperation, a sound lawmaker that does not drag another’s cap or slaps anyone that doesn’t support him.

A well coordinated springboard in leadership, one that tolerates diverse opinions and choices; a man loved across party lines and enjoys equal measure of love all round. This is what our State needs today.

Such individual is Senator SamDaddy Anyanwu....

Emeka Ihedioha is a known chronic beggar, before the selection of PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Ihedioha had schemed around begging Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to use him as his running mate.

To make his fruitless desire more unfruitful, Ihedioha engaged his social media handlers to hype the ambition. At a time, Ihedioha was rejoicing and dancing that Atiku had selected him as his running mate. All these later came out to be spurious, puerile, and misleadingly desperation.

Few days ago, Ihedioha had joined in the Abuja meeting and was said to have begged Senator Iyorchia Ayu led NWC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa and Aminu Tambuwal to save him from imminent collapse.

What was he begging for, to allow him retain the position of Chairman of PCC list for Imo state. This is the last request Alhaji Atiku Abubakar could ever grant for Ihedioha after he greedily diverted and hijacked hundreds of million given to him by same Atiku in 2019.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar knows that Ihedioha has gone bankrupt and needed some raw cash to sustain his Governorship bid ahead of 2023 elections. Atiku knows that once Ihedioha was given the position, he would stock and starch all the millions from him for his Governorship ambition. No wonder Atiku and co outrightly rejected him and his undeserving desire.

Just yesterday, after Atiku approved the nomination of Hon Greg Egu as the Director General of PCC for Imo State, Ihedioha was let loose as he directed his social media handlers to start spreading falsehood that he and his defunct Deputy, Gerald Irona were retained as PCC Chairman and Deputy respectively. Did Ihedioha ever know that Atiku could only trust Hon Egu than any of them? Did Ihedioha know that Hon Egu is too close to Atiku than Ihedioha himself?

Why does Ihedioha scheme around so desperately for power? Why does he resort to begging and blackmail anytime he fails to secure what he desires politically? Is Ihedioha truly an Imo or Igbo man? This is because Igbos are not seen to be too beggarly especially, when such thing is coming from a Northerner (Aboki) and Westerner (Onye Ofe Nmanu).

The most annoying part of it is that once Ihedioha’s begging spirit becomes botched, he comes back to Imo state to start punching and slapping those he think were instrumental to his failure.

May Ihedioha never be our portion in life!
