The American guy asked; Would you like to play a game. The Nigerian man, who was tired & just wanted to take... a nap declined. The American guy persisted and said; The game will be fun filled, I will ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you will pay me $5.

You will ask me a question, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500. This catches the Nigerian man's attention and to make the American guy quiet, he agreed to play the game. The American guy asked the first question. What is the distance from The Earth to the moon? Nigerian man doesn't say a word, he reaches to his pocket, pulls out five-dollar, and hands it to the American guy. It became the Nigerian man's turn.

He asked; What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four? The American guy used his laptop, searched all the references he knew. Used d air - phone, searched google, the Library of Congress, Sent e-mails to all d smart friends he knew, all to no avail. After one hour of searching, he finally gave up. He woke the Nigerian man & gave him $500.

The Nigerian man pockets the $500 and went back to sleep. The American guy wanted to know the answer. He woke the Nigerian man up and asked; Well, so what goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four? The Nigerian man quickly reached into his pocket, brought out $5, gave the American guy and went back to sleep.

Two days after the bloody Christmas Day bombings, President Goodluck Jonathan and supreme head of Nigeria’s Muslims, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday met behind closed doors in Abuja on how to address Boko Haram crisis. At the end of the session, they resolved to call for an enlarged meeting involving religious and traditional rulers.

Addressing State House Correspondents after the meeting, the Sultan condemned the Christmas Day bomb blasts, saying the group was evil and both religions (Islam and Christianity) must come together to stop Boko Haram.

“We came in here to felicitate and commiserate with Mr. President over the unfortunate incident that happened this period. We’ve had very positive meeting with Mr. President on so many things and how to move this country forward, how to make our country stable and to approach those challenges that are facing Nigeria on a common ground.

“I want to assure all Nigerians that there is no conflict between Christians and Muslims, between Islam and Christianity. It is a conflict between evil people and good people and the good people are more than the evil doers. The good people must come together to defeat the evil ones and that is the message. We want to assure all our Christian brothers and leaders that we stand on the path of truth according to our religion; that we will continue to work Insha Allah for the greatness of this country.
“As I said, there is no conflict between Islam and Christianity and I want to assure that we will do all we can in the best of our ability to solve the numerous problems confronting our country”, he said.

Asked what was agreed on as way out of the crisis, the Sultan disclosed that the government will look at all the past reports “including the one set up by the President on the North-East crisis, also the Solomon Lar report on Plateau State and other reports and at the resumption of work, Mr. President and his team will look through all those reports and then call for a meeting of a larger body for consultation with all of us, both religious and traditional leaders.
“So, we believe that is a very good way because we have to close ranks because nowhere in our two religions, both Christianity and Islam, that says we should be violent in dealing with one another”.

On the belief that religious leaders have not been speaking out enough, the Sultan said: “Have we not been speaking out? Did you read the Press statement I issued out the day before yesterday? What else do you want us to say? We are totally against what has been happening, we totally condemn all these. Nobody can take anybody’s life, it’s unIslamic, it’s ungodly, nobody can take anybody’s life; all lives are sacred, must be respected and protected by all. So, we have been speaking out. We all know what the situations are and we can only advise the government and we have been advising the government on several occasions”.

On the allegation that those that have dared to condemn the sect openly have returned to back them out of fear, the Sultan replied: “There is no fear, I only speak as Muslim leader and you know that we don’t say what we don’t mean and what we don’t do. It is against Islam, there is a special verse in the Holy Quran that says so, ‘don’t speak what you don’t do’. It is distasteful in the eyes of Almighty Allah, but we are quite aware of Almighty Allah’s instruction to always speak the truth because we will go back to Him to give account of what we have done on earth. So, whatever we say to anybody or any group at any time, we wholly mean so”.

Senate President David Mark yesterday told German Ambassador to Nigeria, Dorothee Janetzke –Wenzel in Abuja that the ban on same sex marriage in Nigeria was irrevocable. Senate passed a new law banning same sex marriage in Nigeria yesterday, stipulating a 14-year jail term for offenders. Gay clubs were also banned from operating in the country.

At a meeting with Janetzke –Wenzel on Thursday, the Senate President reiterated that any aid for the country tied to endorsement of same sex marriage is not welcome.“It is unfair to tie whatever assistance or aide to Nigeria to the laws we make in the over all interest of our citizens. Otherwise we are tempted to believe that such assistance comes with ulterior motives.

“If the assistance is aimed at mortgaging our future, values, custom and ways of life, then they should as well keep their assistance”. Meanwhile, Senator Mark has assured foreign missions in Nigeria of their safety as the Federal Government has risen up to the occasion to check the menace of security threat.

“There is no need to panic or contemplate leaving Nigeria on account of security. We are doing our best to contain the situation. Recent events have shown that we are capable of handling the situation.” He noted that Nigeria was aware of the challenging security situation and was exploring all reasonable local and international avenues to tackle the situation.

“I can say without fear of contradiction that our efforts are yielding results in dealing with the security situation, so there is no need for anybody or mission to contemplate leaving Nigeria, we shall overcome”, the President of the Senate stated.

David Mark reminded the Ambassador that Nigeria and Germany have a long history of bilateral relationship which he canvassed, should be improved upon for the benefit of both nations. He also canvassed exchange educational and legislative programmes that would further cement the good relationship between Germany and Nigeria. Earlier, Janetzke –Wenzel requested for stronger economic ties with Nigeria in order to boost the economy of both nations.

She was pleased to note Europe that was hitherto ravaged by wars has now become a haven for peace, economic and political cooperation for the good of all.

The "first step of Manchester City's title challenge" was how the public announcer described the club's Premier League opener against Swansea City to an expectant Etihad Stadium on Monday night. Two hours later, the judgement was clear: Roberto Mancini's side will be title contenders this season and in Sergio Aguero they have signed a new hero, a man who could make Carlos Tevez seem a distant memory.

The £38 million (€43m) summer signing from Atletico Madrid could surely not have even dreamed of a more successful debut than his 31-minute cameo as a second-half substitute in which he scored two goals and made another as City completed a dominant 4-0 win over the Premier League new boys.

It was a simply sensational individual performance, one that had the City faithful drooling as Mancini hailed a “perfect night” before comparing Aguero to legendary Brazilian striker Romario.

The Argentine striker's first goal, eight minutes after his introduction, was a predatory finish to turn the ball home from close range after he showed desire and anticipation to get on the end of Micah Richards' cross.

The coup de grace, the real statement to the other 19 clubs in the English top flight, came with the moment that he made it 4-0 in added time.

Picking up the ball just under 30 yards from the Swansea goal, he delivered a vicious swerving effort that slammed into the net. It was a strike of which his famous father-in-law, Diego Maradona, would have been proud.

In between, Aguero had found time to create City's third goal of the night for David Silva, lifting the ball over Michel Vorm and impudently finding the Spaniard in front of goal with a show of perseverance and awareness.

City's new No.16 offered a new attacking dimension for the hosts from the moment he stepped on the pitch to replace the injured Nigel de Jong. It wasn't just his goals and assist that made him stand out; it was his intelligent movement, the classy link-up play with Silva and his direct dribbling at the heart of a vulnerable Swansea defence.

Yes, it was 'only' Swansea, a team whose sole ambition for the new campaign is to avoid relegation. Yet Aguero was the man who turned the game on its head, turned a tight scoreline into an emphatic victory under the floodlights at the newly named Etihad Stadium. Oh, and he's also done it against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid during his time in Spain.

The 23-year-old also came into the game severely undercooked having not played a single minute in the club's pre-season after featuring for Argentina in the Copa America and then picked up a foot injury shortly after signing for City.

The scary thing is that Mancini, who could barely conceal his delight, warned after the game that there is more to come from a player who arrived in England probably without the reputation he deserved following four highly successful years at Atletico Madrid.

“I'm not surprised by what I saw because I know him well,” Mancini said. “He's a fantastic striker who scored a lot of goals in Spain and Argentina. I still don't think he's 100 per cent yet because he has been training with us for only 10 days.

“He can improve but it was still important for him to score on his debut. He needs to do more training and he is still recovering from playing in the Copa América but I am really happy because they were important goals.”

'Carlos who?' scoffed the City fans as they flooded out of the exits at full-time. Tevez, still in Manchester having failed to be granted a move so far this summer, was not present to watch his compatriot immediately win the hearts of the followers of his new club.

While Tevez has continually been a disruptive influence in his two years at City, Aguero is a far more down-to-earth and on-message character, a man who wants to be known for his professionalism as much as his stunning goals.

Aguero's ability has never been in question, but nobody could have predicted he would make such an immediate impact on English football. It remains to be seen how he will fare in the notoriously cold winter months but he showed here that he has the footballing brain to form instant relationships on the field of play.

The more he plays with Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko, the more we will see from Aguero and vice-versa. The thought of Tevez and Aguero lining up in the same side at Bolton on Sunday will have City fans salivating; his link-up play with the wonderful Silva already looks like it could be extremely productive.

But whatever the future holds for Tevez, it is Aguero – signed as a replacement for his compatriot – who is the future for City. If he can perform to the standards he showed on Monday night, he could well be involved in a team challenging for the title on the final day of the season.

The count down for the implementation of the new minimum wage as far as the labour movement is concerned began in March when President Goodluck Jonathan in the heat of political manouevring and overtures signed the new minimum wage bill into law.
