A comical situation has arose on Twitter! Remember former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has been appointed as a minister and was required to relocate from Rivers State to Abuja. As news of his impending move spread, Nigerians couldn’t resist injecting humor into the situation - don’t mind these Twitter boys.

As the word got out, citizens jokingly warned the former Governor not to set foot in Abuja without his beloved band, “Sensational Bamidele”. It seemed that the band had become an inseparable part of Wike’s public appearances, and Nigerians couldn’t fathom the thought of the governor’s new chapter in Abuja without their electrifying performances.

“Governor Wike, if you dare step into Abuja without your band, you might find yourself dancing alone at events!” some folks humorously teased on Twitter. Others playfully suggested that the band’s presence was crucial to keep the ex-governor’s energy levels up during those high-profile political gatherings.

Memes and social media posts flooded the internet, showcasing funny scenarios of ex-Governor Wike arriving in Abuja without Sensational Bamidele. There were images of him attempting to dance to the beats of silence or mimicking the band’s tunes with exaggerated dance moves. People’s imaginations ran wild with entertaining scenarios that tickled the nation’s funny bone.

The lighthearted banter even reached the governor’s ears, and he couldn’t help but chuckle at the amusing remarks from his fellow citizens. “Looks like I better start packing my bags, and of course, my band,” he quipped in response to the playful warnings.

In the midst of political tensions and serious discussions, the comic relief brought by Nigerians’ witty remarks provided a breath of fresh air. It reminded everyone that even in the world of politics, there was room for humor and laughter.

As the day of his relocation approached, Governor Wike should make sure to reassure Nigerians that he wouldn’t dare leave Sensational Bamidele behind. “Abuja, here we come, with the band in tow!” he should declared with a smile.

And so, the tale of Governor Wike and Sensational Bamidele continued, with laughter and amusement accompanying their journey to the nation’s capital. As the band geared up for their new adventures in Abuja, Nigerians eagerly awaited the next chapter of this humorous politics and governance of Wike, where music, dance, and comedy blended seamlessly in the world of Nigerian politics.

Wike’s Band? Yes. You don’t know them?

In the vibrant city of Port Harcourt, there existed a band unlike any other - “Sensational Bamidele” - who had a very peculiar gig. Their mission was to entertain none other than the ex-governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and they took this task with great enthusiasm.

Whenever the former Governor Wike graced television screens, attended events, or embarked on political programs, especially commissioning of gigantic projects, Sensational Bamidele was right there, ready to bring their electrifying performances to hype up the atmosphere. Their secret was simple - they paid close attention to the governor’s moods and preferences, crafting lyrics and tunes that perfectly matched his energy.

What made Sensational Bamidele truly exceptional was their ability to improvise on the spot. They never rehearsed with the governor but used their quick wits to adapt to his reactions and tailor their performances accordingly. This unique approach not only delighted the governor but also left the audience in awe, eagerly awaiting the band’s next appearance.

As word spread about the band’s infectious energy and their knack for brightening up any event, the anticipation grew. Sensational Bamidele became synonymous with unity and joy in the political landscape, reminding everyone that even amidst tensions and crises, humor and lightheartedness could prevail.

Their music, dance, and infectious spirit had become an integral part of the political scene, creating lasting memories wherever they went in Rivers State.

And so, the legend of Sensational Bamidele, the band that brought music and laughter to the world of politics, continued to unfold in Port Harcourt and beyond. As they accompanied ex-Governor Nyesom Wike on his political journey to Abuja, it is only hoped that Abuja residents and politicians would feel the sensation and merriment!

Lets make welcome to former Governor Wike, as he packs his bags and band to Abuja!

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi has urged security agencies to do more in securing the nation, saying that it is unacceptable for innocent Nigerians to continue to be killed in their hundreds within their own country.

In a statement posted on his official Twitter page on Thursday, Obi said the implications of an insecure environment for development are far-reaching, as investors will not consider venturing into to a nation where their resources will not be safe and secured. He also urged critical stakeholders including, traditional, Christian, and Muslim leaders to continue pushing for peace among their people in the way and manner they conduct themselves.

Below is the former Anambra State governor’s full statement.

The rising insecurity in the country leading to mindless bloodletting, particularly in the North Central zone of the country, and the continued disruption of business and social activities in the South East are all becoming very worrisome. The violent attacks in the North Central states of Benue and Plateau lately took a new twist with high records of kidnapping, arson, and loss of human lives. According to the 1st Quarter Mass Atrocities Casualty Tracking Report, over 1230 Nigerians were killed, 79 of them security operatives, with over 600 abductions in the first quarter of this year alone.

With what has been happening in the North Central and Zamfara state lately the figure as of today will be mind-boggling even far more than the deaths recorded in Russia/Ukraine ongoing carnage.
It’s unacceptable that hundreds of innocent lives will continue to be wasted in Nigeria needlessly through communal clashes, bandits, and kidnapping activities. The situation in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau states has raised a lot of anxiety because of the number of lives and properties lost with very little resistance from security operatives.

Also disturbing is the continued disruption of business and social activities in the South East region over the Sit-at-Home directive purported to be coming from the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, when the body has publicly denied issuing such directive. What is going on in the South East therefore is essentially a criminal activity that must be nipped in the bud, with all hands being on deck, security agencies, and the people alike.

The South East Governors are to be commended for their renewed efforts at curbing this menace but there is a need to be more strategic and intelligence-driven in our approach to reducing the suffering of innocent people.

Mason Mount will bring "dynamism" to Manchester United's midfield, according to manager Erik ten Hag. The 24-year-old midfielder impressed on his first 45 minutes for the club, as they opened their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Leeds United in Oslo.

Mount, who signed from Chelsea for £55m, played the first half before 11 changes were made at the break. "He will bring dynamism into our game and that was one of our conclusions last season," Ten Hag told MUTV. "His vision is to play the offensive. But also he wants to be multi-functional, he wants to be complete.

"When you're playing in midfield, you have to attack, but you also you have to defend. We need to be more dynamic in the midfield department. "I'm sure he will contribute to the success of United because he is a quality player."

Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, has issued a one-week ultimatum to the Department of the State Security Service (DSS) to either charge the detained suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele to Court or set him free.

The Judge issued the order while delivering ruling in a fundamental human rights suit instituted against the DSS and others by Emefiele. The judge said Emefiele hasn’t shown that his arrest and investigation is unlawful, but noted that it is within his right to get fair hearing.

Justice Muazu further stated that the suspended CBN governor can’t remain in detention without a formal charge, adding also that the DSS can’t use the period of Emefiele’s detention to search for evidence against him. Justice Muazu held that the DSS has power to carry out its constitutional duties of making arrest, detain and ensuring prevention of internal crime but however said that such duties must be carried out within the law.

Emefiele had sued the Attorney General of the Federation AGF, Director General of the DSS, seeking enforcement of his fundamental human rights to freedom of movement and dignity to human life. In the suit, the suspended CBN Governor had applied that his arrest and detention since June 10 without valid order of court be voided and set aside.

Emefiele demanded a compensation of N5M as exemplary damages for his alleged unlawful detention. He was suspended as CBN governor on 9th June and arrested in the early hours of June 10 at his Ikoyi, Lagos home. Shortly after President Bola Tinubu suspended him, the DSS had on June 10 arrested the apex bank governor who has been in detention since then.

President Bola Tinubu has written to the National Assembly, seeking an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act. Tinubu, in a letter to the House of Representatives, said the amendment was to allow the Federal Government to source N500 billion for palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit known as petrol.

During plenary on Wednesday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read Tinubu’s letter, titled, ‘Request for the amendment of the 2022 appropriation act’. According to the President, the money would be sourced from the 2022 supplementary Appropriation Act of N819.5 billion.

“I write to request the approval of the House of Representatives for the amendment of the 2022 supplementary appropriation act in accordance with the attached. “The request has become necessary in other to among other things source for funds necessary to provide palliatives to mitigate the effect of the recent removal of fuel subsidy on Nigerians.

“Thus the sum of N500 billion only has been extracted from the 2022 supplementary appropriation act of N819.536 billion for the provision of palliatives to Nigerians to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal. I hope that the House of Representatives will consider the request,” the letter read.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2023 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for admission into the 110 Federal Government Colleges (Unity Schools) across Nigeria.

Of the 69,829 pupils who sat for the examination, 76 pupils had the highest score of 203. The examination was written on June 3, 2023 in Nigeria, Benin Republic and Togo. The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, David Adejo, after receiving the results from the Registrar of the NECO, Ibrahim Wushishi, on Wednesday, said a total of 72,865 pupils registered for the examination.

The Permanent Secretary while applauding NECO for the conduct of the examination appreciated the increase recorded in the number of female students. Adejo said, “A total of 72,865 pupils registered compared to 71,738 for 2022 with Lagos State having the highest number of 18,644 and Taraba with the lowest of 102.

“With 38,801 female registrants against 34,064 males, we are making progress with bridging the gender parity. 69,829 pupils sat for the examination, 3,036 pupils were absent, 76 pupils had the highest score of 203. The lowest score was 01 mark and this was scored by six (6) pupils.”

He said the admission criteria for selection of qualified candidates into Federal Unity Colleges remained the same: 60% Merit; 30% Equality of State and 10% Exigency.

"To be honest, I cried. I cried a lot," says Vanina Correa, who is about to captain Argentina in New Zealand at the 2023 Fifa Women's World Cup. The veteran goalkeeper, who was in the squad for the 2003 edition in the United States, is talking about her emotions when the national men's team were crowned world champions last December.

An estimated five million people poured on to the streets of Buenos Aires to give Lionel Messi and his team-mates a hero's welcome home after defeating France on penalties in the final in Qatar. Seven months on from those incredible scenes in Argentina's capital, La Albiceleste are preparing for their opening match at the Women's World Cup against Italy at Eden Park, Auckland, on 24 July (07:00 BST).

No country has managed to hold the World Cup for both the men and women at the same time. That is unlikely to change in the coming weeks. While Argentina are on top of the world in the men's game, the women - 28th in Fifa's rankings - have not won a match at their three previous appearances at the global tournament in 2003, 2007 and 2019.

That perhaps explains why there is little evidence in the football-obsessed country that boss German Portanova and his players are about to take part in the biggest women's sporting event.

President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the killings and violence in Plateau State, his spokesman, Dele Alake, has said. The President strongly condemned the recent internecine killings in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau and parts of Benue State.

Tinubu also said the country must break the cycle of violence. “It is most unfortunate that in this orgy of violence, an innocent eight-month-old baby in Farin Lamba community of Vwang District, Jos South Local Government, died in a conflict she knew nothing about,” the President said, according to a statement by Alake on Tuesday.

“A major consequence of perennial conflict is always the tragic loss of innocent lives. “To build virile, peaceful and prosperous communities demand tolerance and forgiveness for every perceived wrongdoing.” The President urged socio-religious leaders in the troubled areas as well as the leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, and Christian Association of Nigeria to work together to help foster genuine and long-lasting peace.

“While reaffirming his government’s strong determination to stamp out violent crimes and all forms of criminalities everywhere in Nigeria, the President has directed security agencies to fish out the masterminds of the dastardly acts to face the full wrath of law,” the statement added.

Last week, the President similarly asked the House of Representatives to confirm the newly appointed service chiefs. The Speaker, Abass Tajudeen, read the President’s letter at opened Thursday plenary session.

On June 19, Tinubu replaced all the service chiefs with immediate effect. The ousted security chiefs included retired Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (National Security Adviser), Lucky Irabor (Chief of Defence Staff), Faruk Yahaya (Chief of Army Staff), Awwal Gambo (Chief of Naval Staff), and Isiaka Amao (Chief of Air Staff).

The new appointees include Nuhu Ribadu (National Security Adviser), Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa (Chief of Defence Staff), Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla (Chief of Naval Staff), and AVM Hassan Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff).

France striker Kylian Mbappe has called his club side Paris St-Germain "divisive" as doubts over his future intensify. Mbappe, 24, whose contract at PSG expires in 2024, made the comments to France Football magazine.

PSG's all-time leading scorer has told the club he will not sign a new deal. "I think that playing for PSG doesn't help much because it's a divisive team, a divisive club," Mbappe is reported as saying.

"We did what we could [in the Champions League], period. You have to talk to the people who make the team, who organise the squad, who build this club."

Paris St-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi said he will not allow Mbappe to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, in a landmark judgment, has ordered the disclosure of the spending details of about USD$5 billion Abacha loot by the governments of former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.”

The court ordered the government of President Bola Tinubu to “disclose the exact amount of money stolen by General Sani Abacha from Nigeria, and the total amount of Abacha loot recovered and all agreements signed on same by the governments of former presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan and Buhari.” The judgment was delivered last week by Justice James Kolawole Omotosho following a Freedom of Information suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/407/2020, brought by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

In his judgment, Justice Omotosho held that, “In the final analysis, the application by SERAP is meritorious and the Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance is hereby ordered to furnish SERAP with the full spending details of about $5bn Abacha loot within 7 days of this judgment.”

Justice Omotosho ordered the government to “disclose details of the projects executed with the Abacha loot, locations of any such projects and the names of companies and contractors that carried or carrying out the projects since the return of democracy in 1999 till date.” Justice Omotosho also ordered the government to “disclose details of specific roles played by the World Bank and other partners in the execution of any projects funded with Abacha loot under the governments of former presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan and Buhari.”

Justice Omotosho also stated that, “The excuse by the Minister of Finance is that the Ministry has searched its records and the details of the exact public funds stolen by Abacha and how the funds have been spent are not held by the Ministry. The excuse has no leg to stand in view of section 7 of the Freedom of Information Act.”

Former Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar's condition is "stable but still concerning" following a bleed on his brain, his family says. The 52-year-old was taken to an intensive care unit on Friday.

He "will remain in intensive care for the time being" said Ajax in a statement on behalf of his wife. He is reportedly being treated in a hospital in Croatia, where he was on holiday. The former Netherlands international, who won 130 caps for his country, resigned from his role as Ajax chief executive in May after the side finished third in the Dutch league and failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2009.

He retired from playing after leaving United in 2011 before joining the Ajax board in 2012, and later becoming the club's chief executive in 2016. Van der Sar made 266 appearances for the Red Devils and helped them to win four Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League. He also played in the Premier League for Fulham and in Serie A for Juventus.

His former clubs and team-mates are among those sending their support to Van der Sar. "The Van der Sar family, along with Ajax, is grateful and deeply touched by the many messages of support," Ajax said.

Chelsea decided against a shirt sponsorship agreement with an online gambling company. The club's supporters' trust had spoken out against such a partnership, although it is understood Chelsea had already ruled a deal before that.

In April, the Premier League announced that gambling sponsors would be withdrawn from the front of shirts by the end of the 2025-26 season. Chelsea say the shirt will go on sale on the website and in their shop on 16 August, three days after their opening Premier League game against Liverpool. It will go on wide sale on 23 August.

Conflict-torn Sudan is on the brink of a “full-scale civil war” that could destabilise the entire region, the United Nations warned Sunday, after an air strike on a residential area killed around two dozen civilians. The Ministry of Health reported “22 dead and a large number of wounded among the civilians” from the strike on Khartoum’s sister city Omdurman, in the district of Dar al-Salam, which means “House of Peace” in Arabic.

After nearly three months of war between Sudan’s rival generals, the air strike is the latest incident to provoke outrage. Around 3,000 people have been killed in the conflict, survivors have reported a wave of sexual violence and witnesses have spoken of ethnically targeted killings. There has been widespread looting, and the UN warned of possible crimes against humanity in the Darfur region.

A video posted by the health ministry on Facebook showed apparently lifeless bodies after the airstrike, including several women. The narrator says that residents “counted 22 dead”. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), fighting the regular army, claimed that the strike killed 31. Since the war began, paramilitaries have established bases in residential areas, and they have been accused of forcing civilians from their homes.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday condemned the air strike in Omdurman, which he said “reportedly killed at least 22 people” and wounded dozens, his deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement. Guterres “remains deeply concerned that the ongoing war between the armed forces has pushed Sudan to the brink of a full-scale civil war, potentially destabilising the entire region”, Haq said. He added: “There is an utter disregard for humanitarian and human rights law that is dangerous and disturbing.”

Nearly three million people have been uprooted by Sudan’s fighting, among them almost 700,000 who have fled to neighbouring countries according to the International Organization for Migration.

Political leaders from the South-East region are calling on the Federal Government to intervene in order to ensure that normalcy returns to the region. This came after a meeting of governors and elected members of the National Assembly from the region held in Abuja on Monday.

The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, said the governments in the region need the assistance of the Federal Government to address the security challenges in the region.

Leaders from the South-East from across political divides attended the meeting, which was held behind closed doors. At the end of the meeting, Uzodinma announced the resolution to seek the intervention of the Federal Government.

Some of the leaders in attendance were the President General, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, and former Minister of Labour, Sen. Chris Ngige.

Beyond the sit-at-home order of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and gunmen attacks, the political leaders expressed determination to end other challenges hindering the development of the region, regardless of their political differences.

Security Operatives of the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, in collaboration with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, have set ablaze an intercepted vessel carrying barrels of stolen crude oil in the Escravos area of Delta State. The vessel was set ablaze by a military helicopter.

The vessel allegedly owned by a Nigerian registered company, was heading to Cameroon with the cargo onboard when it was apprehended at an offshore location with the captain and crew members onboard.

According to the Executive Director of Operations and Technical at Tantita Security, Captain Warred Enisuoh and the Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferreira, the oil cargo was illegally sourced from a well-jacketed offshore in Ondo State with no valid documentation at the time of the arrest.

The said vessel had operated in stealth mode for the last 12 years.
The discovery was the latest in the series of disturbing findings by the Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, a security outfit owned by former militant leader Government Ekpemepulo aka Tompolo and contracted by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

President Bola Tinubu says Nigerians cannot afford to be refugees in other countries, adding that his green-back passport is still what he has. The President called on Nigerians to be patriotic and have confidence in the country as the whole nation goes through “baby steps of faith” for the country to arrive at a “positive destination”.

“Nigeria will see positive changes as we move along. Let’s go through these baby steps of faith,” Tinubu said on Thursday when he visited the palace of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, in Abeokuta, the state capital. “Let the confidence return to Nigeria. This country is the only country we have. I know what it means to be a refugee in another country. And my green-back passport is what I still have now.”

Tinubu, who said his visit was a homecoming, saluted the leaders for delivering Ogun State for him in the last election despite the ‘no money, no fuel’ controversy that dotted the February 25, 2023 poll.

He said having achieved ‘Emi lo kan’, he was glad to be back in Ogun State. He thereafter sought the prayers of the monarchs to steer the ship of Nigeria aright and to deliver on all promises made.

“To the chairman of our party, I am grateful. At least, we delivered despite the hardship of no money, no fuel. Ah! I credit you. Thank you.

“The hope is recharged. It is here. That hope will never fail. I am here still making that pledge of the campaign promise,” the President stated. Tinubu made his famous “Emi lokan (It is my turn)” speech on June 2, 2022 in Abeokuta days before the presidential primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “It is the turn of Yoruba, it is my turn,” he said while addressing party delegates at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, met with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; and the service chiefs at the State House in Abuja. In attendance at the meeting include the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. C.G Musa; the Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen T. A Lagbaja; the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla; and the Chief of Air Staff, AVM H.B Abubakar.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun was also present at the security meeting. The meeting was not unconnected to the worrisome security situation in the country. Monday’s meeting is the President’s first formal engagement with the NSA and the service chiefs since their appointment on June 19, 2023.

Monday’s engagement followed Tinubu’s return to base in Abuja on Sunday after a string of Sallah activities in Lagos last week. The President had on June 19 removed all the service chiefs he met in office exactly three weeks after his inauguration and appointed new ones whom he directed to resume with immediate effect.

The move by the President followed persistent calls by civil society organisations that the security architecture be rejigged and fresh hands allowed to handle the nation’s security apparatus.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) has described as untrue a social media video showing a woman washing Golden Penny Semovita in a sieve using cold water and claimed that the residue she got after sieving was plastic. In a press statement personally signed by NAFDAC DG, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye stated that a similar video was circulated in 2020 which later turned out to be untrue after a scientific analysis of Semovita content. "Upon receiving the alerts from various quarters in the community in 2020, the Director General immediately gave a directive to conduct emergency post-marketing analysis using different brands of Semolina.

"The Agency investigated this claim by conducting appropriate analytical testing in her internationally accredited laboratories. The results showed that there was no plastic or any similar harmful contaminants in Golden Penny Semovita. It contained the expected components plus the required Vitamin A.  "NAFDAC therefore wishes to inform the general public that the claim in the social media video assertions is misleading. The alleged Golden Penny Semovita is a brand of semolina, a very popular flour made from wheat and consumed in several parts of the world. Semolina contains mainly water, carbohydrates and about 13% of gluten-forming proteins.

"Gluten is made up of two classes of proteins - glutenin and gliadin, which upon addition of water combine to form gluten, a protein that gives nutritive value and imparts other characteristic properties to the product. "Glutenin normally gives a bread dough the ability to rise during baking while gliadin gives it the viscous and elastic (viscoelastic) properties, or it simply makes it extensible and elastic. This latter property is the rubbery/plastic-like appearance that was exhibited in the said video. Semolina has no plastic content in it; it only exhibits viscous and elastic properties. "The rubbery-like material that was observed in the video after many washings with water is the gluten that formed after the gluten-forming proteins get mixed with water.

Golden Penny Semovita is manufactured by Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc., a registered company which has been granted marketing authorization by NAFDAC to manufacture the product and offer for sale in Nigeria. "The company’s operations were certified by NAFDAC after meeting the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS). NAFDAC wishes to reassure the public that Golden Penny Semovita and indeed all other semolina products registered by the Agency are safe for human consumption having been so approved by the Agency, following science-driven regulatory diligence.

"There is no cause for apprehension by consumers as such approved products are manufactured in line with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and in compliance with the Nigerian Industrial Standards, which is continuously monitored by NAFDAC. "Members of the public are implored to exercise discretion in the use of social media to address any suspicion they may have on regulated products. Resorting to social media has the tendency to cause fear and panic. Rather, they should contact the nearest NAFDAC office or contact NAFDAC via online channels at reforms@nafdac.gov.ng  Or Call: 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322) for immediate response".

Newcastle United have signed AC Milan and Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract, becoming Eddie Howe's first signing of the summer as his side prepares for Champions League football.

Tonali helped Milan win Serie A in 2021-22 and was part of the side which reached last season's Champions League semi-finals. He is also a member of Italy's squad at the Under-21 European Championships. Tonali came through the ranks at Brescia and made his professional debut for them in Serie B at 17.

Brescia were promoted to Serie A in 2018-19 and, though the club was relegated the following season, Tonali made his Italy debut during that campaign when he came on as a substitute against Liechtenstein in October 2019. He joined AC Milan on loan in the summer of 2020 and, after making the move permanent the following year, scored five goals in 36 top-flight appearances as the club won the Italian title in 2022.

Tonali scored twice in 34 Serie A outings as the San Siro side finished fourth last season, while he made 12 appearances in the Champions League before Milan were knocked out by rivals Inter in the semi-finals.

Plans to commence the defence by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) on Monday recorded a setback due to the absence of its first witness.

INEC, which is the first respondent in the petition by the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was scheduled to open its defence today. The petitioners are challenging the emergence of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25 election.

At the resumed hearing, counsel to INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud, told the court that he planned to call three witnesses within three days, but the one slated for the day’s hearing was unavailable due to some domestic issues. He subsequently applied for an adjournment till Tuesday to enable the witness to attend court. Counsel to other parties did not object to the request by INEC’s counsel.

The Chairmen of the panel, Justice Haruna Tsammani, subsequently adjourned till 9 am on Tuesday for the hearing. INEC is also expected to open its defence at 2 pm in the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.q
