Unhappy with the outcome of the recent offcycle Governorship Election in Imo State, the Standard bearer and the Candidate of the Young Progressive Party YPP in the Election has filed a petition to the Election Petition Tribunal to register its grievances and what it termed "ignominious subversion of the will of Imo people".
According to a press release from Rt. Hon Michael Anyanwu, the Special Assistant Media to High Chief Dr. Kemdi Chino Opara he urge all their supporters to stay steadfast and optimistic as they remain confident that the Judiciary will dispense justice fairly and uphold the rule of law as an essential pillar of democracy.
The statement reads, "This is to inform all members and supporters of the Imo Liberation Project, YPP faithfuls and the general public yearning for quality leadership and good governance in the State that the Candidate of the Party (YPP) in the last Imo governorship election, High Chief Dr. Kemdi Chino Opara and the Party have taken the legal step of filing a petition at the Imo Governorship Election Tribunal in their commitment to lawfully challenge the outcome of the Guber election in the State towards ensuring that the stolen mandate is recovered."
"There is no gainsaying that what was experienced on the 11th of November 2023 in Imo State was an ignominious subversion of the will of Imo people who were denied the opportunity to freely give their mandate to Dr. Opara and the YPP. The obvious larceny is injurious to our democracy and should not be allowed to stand for whatever reasons, he continued.
Moreso, there seem to be glaring evidence of fraud in the election as more than 11 political parties have filed different suit contending the legality of the Election result.
