At least 1,686 people were killed in 909 cult-related incidents across Nigeria between January 2020 and March 2025, with the South-South and South-West most affected, a new SBM Intelligence report reveals.
Rivers, Lagos, and Edo led in fatalities, while cult groups like Aiye, Eiye, Vikings, and Icelanders dominated the violence. Edo, Ogun, and Delta accounted for over half of the total deaths. The North recorded minimal gang activity due to the presence of terror groups.
