...as Imo Contingent Departs Owerri

"Gateway Games 2024", being the title for the 2024 edition of the National Sports Festival, NSF, now shifted to 2025 has just commenced in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with about 600 Imo athletes departing Owerri Saturday.
The Imo Sports men and women drawn from more than 30 different sports, including the paralympic sports, shall be joining others states in the grand opening ceremony to hold at the MKO Abiola stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State Sunday.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will officially declare the festival open during a colourful ceremony expected to showcase Nigeria’s cultural diversity and athletic excellence. The festival, a symbol of national unity and sporting pride since 1973, returns to Ogun State for the first time since 2006.

House on Monday, the 28th of April, 2025 as it landed the state, the governor of Imo State, Distinguished Sen. Hope Uzodinma assured the Delegation from the National Sports Commission, that Imo would be participating in the festival.
And while living up to his assurances, Gov. Uzodinma thereafter, approved the trip of the athletes, while urging them to win more medals.
Uzodinma charged Imo participants "to go out there with determination, and bring home medals" of victories which he said would represent excellent factors of the State in line with the 3Rs administration.
Addressing the athletes before their boarding, the Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha challenged them to win more gold and win the governor's "handshake".
"I hope you know what it means to have a handshake with the governor?", Onyeocha jokingly asked the athletes Saturday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri before their departure.
