A gas explosion rocked the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Ogun State, shortly after 3 p.m on Tuesday, causing widespread panic among athletes and spectators at the venue. The explosion occurred when a gas truck supplying fuel to the complex’s generating set suddenly caught fire, igniting a dangerous blaze.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a dramatic scene of chaos as flames erupted from the truck, triggering panic in the surrounding area. The explosion sent plumes of smoke into the air, raising immediate concerns for the safety of those present. The Alake Sports Complex is one of the key venues for the ongoing National Sports Festival, which had a large number of participants and spectators in attendance including Imo Athletes whom are due to commence their hand ball game by 4pm.
