…. Handball rescheduled as Basketball, Hockey, Boxing secure win
Team Imo continued its impressive run at the ongoing National Sports Festival, Ogun 2024 Gateway Games, with a string of victories across multiple disciplines on Day 3. The contingent delivered strong performances that bolstered their standing in the tournament as they remain in contention in all events.
The female Handball team was initially scheduled to play at 4:30 pm but had their game postponed to Thursday morning due to logistical issues. Despite the rescheduling, it was a largely successful day for the team.
In Ijebu Ode, the female Hockey team recorded a commanding 2-0 victory over Team Nasarawa, pushing them closer to a potential podium finish. Meanwhile, in Ikenne, Team Imo’s men’s Basketball squad thrilled spectators with a tightly contested 46-44 win against the host team, Ogun, showcasing determination and tactical brilliance.
In the Boxing ring, Team Imo’s male boxers outclassed their opponents to advance to the next round, where they are set to square off against Team Kaduna. The momentum continued in other events as well, with Team Imo securing wins in darts and Kungfu.
Looking ahead to Day 4, Team Imo will compete in Cricket, Boxing, Darts, Volleyball, Weightlifting and several other sports with fixtures yet to be confirmed. The team’s consistency and winning mentality have become a highlight of the festival so far for Imo state.
As the Games progress, Team Imo remains focused and determined to maintain their strong form and bring home more medals.
