Governor Dauda Lawal says Zamfara students were unable to sit for WAEC and NECO exams for two years due to ₦3.2bn debt inherited from the previous administration. Speaking on Channels TV, Lawal revealed his government cleared the debt, handed over withheld certificates, and declared an education emergency.
He also disclosed inheriting ₦13.6bn in unpaid pensions and just ₦4m in state coffers. Monthly internally generated revenue has since risen from ₦90m to over ₦2bn.
Lawal accused his predecessor’s administration of financial mismanagement, citing ₦1.2bn monthly FAAC deductions with “no visible projects” to show.
